
Residents of Linh Son Commune, Thai Nguyen City has chosen Vietnam’s guava tree as a key crop. This commune has the local soil conditions that are suitable for the development of guava trees. Guava production has provided a stable source of income for farmers, gradually improving their living standards. In the coming period, the locality plans to continue expanding cultivation areas, enhancing quality, and broadening the guava market.
Linh Son commune is the midland and mountainous region. Therefore, it has hilly terrain with an average elevation of about 200–300 meters above sea level. This landscape creates many well-drained slopes and fertile, loose soil. Therefore, it is very suitable for Vietnamese guava because the soil is mainly alluvial and rich in nutrients.

Vietnam’s guava
Additionally, Linh Son has a temperate climate, with an average annual temperature of around 22–24°C. The average rainfall level reaches 1,500–2,000 mm. Therefore, all of these characteristics provide ideal conditions for Vietnam’s guava growth and high yields.
Over the past ten years, local farmers in Linh Son have selected suitable guava varieties. Among them, the Taiwanese pear guava stands out for its tasty fruit with few seeds and abundant pulp. These varieties have gradually become specialty crops and developed into the “Linh Nham” guava brand.
Thanks to favorable natural conditions and effective cultivation techniques, Linh Son guava has become a high-quality agricultural product. As a result, it is widely favorable for consumers and provides a stable income for local farmers.
According to the province, the total guava cultivation area in Linh Son Commune is currently about 85 hectares. Specifically, it is mainly available in six hamlets: Lang Phan, Thong Nhan, Thanh Chu, Tan Lap, Nui Hot, and Khanh Hoa.
The Taiwanese guava variety has advantages such as high yield, easy care, crisp and sweet fruit, and year-round fruiting. Residents of Linh Son Commune (Thai Nguyen) have expanded the cultivation of this variety. Vietnam’s guava grown in Linh Son is delicious and sweet, favorable by many consumers.
Guava cultivation has brought hundreds of millions of VND in annual income to the people of Linh Son. In particular, local farmers have mastered cultivation techniques. Therefore, they can control harvesting times, and are not dependent on the season. Guava trees bear fruit year-round, with the main harvest occurring in the fifth lunar month. At this peak harvest, the fruit meets quality standards and can sell for up to 50,000 VND/kg.

Vietnamese guava for export
Guava trees that are about one year old in Linh Son can yield an average of 20–40 kg of fruit per year. Meanwhile, Vietnam’s guava trees aged 3–5 years or older can produce nearly 100 kg per year. The Taiwanese guava variety is easy to sell, with a market price of about 14,000–15,000 VND/kg. On average, each year, local households sell around 10 tons of guava, generating hundreds of millions of VND in income.
Currently, Vietnam’s guava is a key crop in Linh Son Commune, providing the main source of income for local farmers. Thanks to the efficient cultivation of Taiwanese guava, the living standards of residents in Linh Son are increasingly stable.
Before guava cultivation was available in Linh Son Commune, many local households mainly practiced rice farming. However, since 2005, residents have gradually switched to Vietnam’s guava cultivation. Since adopting this model, household incomes and living standards have improved significantly.
Guava has become a high-income agricultural product for local people. On average, each 360 m² plot of guava (1 sao) yields 2–3 tons of fruit per year. Accordingly, it generates about 45 million VND in revenue per year. Because of the relatively low investment costs, farmers can earn a profit of approximately 30 million VND per plot.
The Linh Son Farmers’ Association regularly organizes training courses to transfer scientific and technical knowledge on guava cultivation and care to local farmers. The aim is to help residents increase economic efficiency from Vietnamese guava farming.

It also seeks to promote the development of this cultivation model within the community. Thanks to these efforts, Vietnam’s guava has become a key crop for local farmers. Therefore, it provides a stable and significant source of income for residents of Linh Son Commune.
The total guava cultivation area in Linh Son Commune is about 85 hectares. Of this, 12.5 hectares are registered under the “Linh Nham Guava” trademark. After the trademark registration, the average value of guava per hectare reached 90 million VND per year. As a result, it increased by 30–40% compared to before.
The Linh Son Commune People’s Committee has assigned the Farmers’ Association of the commune to manage the “Linh Nham Guava” trademark. In this way, the brand’s preservation and promotion are ensured. In 2023, Linh Nham guava was selected to participate in the province’s program for outstanding agricultural products. This helped the brand gain wider recognition among consumers.
The Linh Son Farmers’ Association actively promotes the brand, organizes training courses, and transfers scientific and technical knowledge to improve product quality. With these efforts, they aim to register Linh Nham guava as an OCOP (One Commune One Product) product in the near future.
Currently, Linh Nham guava has traceable labeling indicating its origin. As a result, it is expanding its market to provinces and cities such as Hanoi, Hai Phong, Hai Duong, Lai Chau, and Son La. In the coming period, Linh Son Commune plans to further expand distribution into major supermarkets nationwide.
