In August 2025, the average export prices of Vietnamese tea reached $1,867 per ton. They went up 5.9% from the previous month but still lower than the same period last year. However, these prices indicated a slow recovery trend.

In August 2025, Vietnam exported 13.4 thousand tons of tea worth USD 25.01 million. Compared to the previous month, the export volume decreased by 2.4%. However, the export value increased by 3.3% thanks to the improvement in average export prices.

However, compared to August 2024, both volume and value saw sharp declines, down 13.8% and 14.6%, respectively. This marks the third consecutive month that the tea industry has recorded a year-on-year drop. It has highlighted significant pressure in maintaining market presence.

For the first 8 months of 2025, total Vietnam’s tea exports reached 85 thousand tons, valued at $145.67 million. These figures showed a decrease of 9.6% in volume and 10.4% in value compared to the same period in 2024.

The average export price over this period stood at USD 1,714 per ton, down 0.9% year-on-year. This continued to reflect the industry’s lack of breakthrough momentum.

Pakistan continued to hold its position as Vietnam’s largest tea export market. Pakistan accounted for 45.63% of export volume and 50.31% of export value in August 2025. Specifically, this market imported over 6.11 thousand tons of tea, worth $12.58 million. The average export price to Pakistan reached $2,058 per ton, 7.1% higher than the previous month.

For the first 8 months of 2025, tea exports to Pakistan reached 30.04 thousand tons, worth $58.35 million. They went up only 0.6% in volume but down 6.3% in value. This indicates that while Pakistan remains a “pillar” for Vietnam’s tea industry. However, heavy dependence on a single market renders exports unstable and vulnerable to fluctuations in demand or pricing.

Taiwan (China) ranked second, importing 1.46 thousand tons of tea in August 2025, valued at $2.97 million. Compared to July 2025, export volume decreased by 2.6%, and value fell 4.1%. However, compared to August 2024, volume dropped 10.6%, while value increased 4.5%. They indicated a shift toward higher-value tea segments.

Over the first 8 months, Vietnamese tea exports to Taiwan reached 9.18 thousand tons, worth USD 17.04 million, down 6.6% in volume but up 1.6% in value. This is a positive signal, reflecting early signs of improved tea quality and value recognition in this market.

The slight rebound in average export prices in August 2025 is an encouraging sign. However, it is not yet enough to confirm a strong recovery for the tea sector. Tea exports are expected to remain stable in the final months of 2025, driven by typically higher consumption during year-end seasons.

However, a strong breakthrough is unlikely due to Vietnam’s continued dependence on the Pakistani market, while several key markets remain in decline.

In the long term, the tea industry needs to place greater emphasis on improving quality and building a national brand. Also, it should enhance traceability and ensure food safety. At the same time, expanding into emerging markets in the Middle East, South Asia, and Europe. This could help mitigate risks and create room for sustainable growth.
