These days, although the harvest season has not yet arrived, joy and excitement are already evident on the faces of carrot growers in Tue Tinh Commune. This year, Vietnam’s carrot production generates both high yields and favorable prices.
Carrots are a key agricultural product of Hai Phong City’s winter crop, with nearly 1,300 hectares under cultivation. Among them, Tue Tinh Commune is the Vietnam’s carrot production hub. Specifically, the commune boasts a concentrated growing area of up to 510 hectares.
In recent years, farmers in Tue Tinh have moved away from experience-based and habitual farming methods. Instead, they have proactively applied science and technology to improve productivity and product quality.

Vietnam carrot’s production
Blessed by the fertile alluvial soils along the Thai Binh River, Vietnam’s carrot production benefits from ideal natural conditions. Moreover, thanks to the diligence and adaptability of local farmers, Vietnamese carrots have built a strong reputation both near and far. This year, the joy has doubled as Vietnamese carrot enterprises have begun purchasing and contracting the crop at high prices even before harvest.
Mr. Phung Duc Soat is a local grower from An Phu Hamlet, Tue Tinh Commune. While tending to his carrot field as the roots begin to form, he shared his excitement. He said: “At the start of the season, frequent storms and heavy rains disrupted planting. As a result, growers should replant some areas due to rising river levels flooding the fields. The difficult beginning made many farmers worry that this Vietnam’s carrot production would be challenging”.
“No one expected that once the initial phase was over, cultivation would become so favorable. This season, carrots have suffered fewer pests and diseases. As a result, yields and quality are higher and more uniform. We already contracted with Vietnam’s carrot companies in early January. Now, we are waiting until early February—when the carrots reach peak freshness—to harvest,” he added.
According to growers, this year Vietnam’s carrot production is likely to yield around 2 tons per sao. This represents an increase of 200–300 kilograms per sao compared to last year. Although harvest time is still about a month away, most carrot fields have already been pre-purchased at prices ranging from 11 to 12 million VND per sao. This is up 3–4 million VND per sao in comparison to 2025.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Thuat is the Director of the Duc Chinh Agricultural Cooperative. He noted: “For many years, local carrots have been popular thanks to their superior quality. However, due to the seasonal nature of Vietnamese agricultural products, carrots have in some years faced the familiar challenge of high yields but low prices”.
“That is why local authorities and farmers have consistently sought to build sustainable production and consumption linkages to enhance product value. This year’s bumper crop and favorable prices are not only the result of market conditions. They are also the outcome of proactive efforts to connect with buyers,” he explained.
Over the years, Tue Tinh carrots have secured a solid position in the national agricultural market. Additionally, local farmers have leased riverside land in neighboring provinces to expand Vietnam’s carrot production. Notably, more than 70% of the output is for export markets, such as Japan, South Korea, Thailand, and Malaysia. Thanks to their high economic efficiency, the commune has actively focused on brand development to further enhance the value.
In recent years, farmers in Tue Tinh Commune have placed strong emphasis on applying science and technology in production. This approach aims to deliver Vietnamese carrots that meet the standards and requirements of export markets. At present, the majority of carrot-growing areas in the locality follow Vietgap production processes, with many fields already certified under this standard. Notably, four production zones have granted export planting area codes.

In addition, Tue Tinh carrots have been recognized as a four-star OCOP product. Building on this foundation, Tue Tinh carrots will continue to receive investment to further improve both quality and output. This will contribute to the city’s shift toward a commodity-oriented, concentrated agricultural model that delivers high economic value. This also serves as an important basis for enhancing the competitiveness of Vietnam’s carrots. At the same time, it reaffirms their role as a key agricultural product of Hai Phong City.
Mr. Nguyen Van Thien is the Vice Chairman of the Tue Tinh Commune People’s Committee. According to him, this year’s Vietnam’s carrot production has brought great joy to local farmers. Carrot output has exceeded 25,000 tons, which is more than 10% higher than in previous years, while market outlets have remained stable.
However, the locality hopes that the value of carrots will extend beyond product consumption alone to create broader spillover effects. This includes strengthening brand positioning through real-world experiences. The goal is that whenever Tue Tinh carrots are mentioned, customers and consumers will immediately associate them with high-quality, reliable agricultural products. Only then can Tue Tinh carrots achieve long-term and sustainable economic efficiency.
