Production may not rise much, but high selling prices can keep Vietnam’s pepper growing strongly in value. The sector is targeting exports of more than $1.5 billion in 2025.

The Vietnam Pepper and Spices Association (VPSA) reported that Vietnam exported 9,000 tons of pepper in a half of October 2025. These shipments generated $59.9 million in revenue.

Between January and mid-October, Vietnam exported 197,100 tons of pepper, earning $1.33 billion. This marked a new record, surpassing the 2024 total of $1.31 billion. Vietnamese businesses say the pepper industry’s success is not just driven by higher global prices.

More crucially, it reflects the efforts of companies investing in deep processing. Vietnam’s pepper may not rise much, but high selling prices can keep the pepper industry growing strongly in value. The sector is targeting exports of more than $1.5 billion in 2025.

The United States, Germany, and India remain the top three markets for Vietnamese pepper. During the first three quarters, these countries represented 24.7%, 8.1%, and 6.1% of the total export value, respectively.

Exports to Germany and India saw strong growth, rising 43.4% and 64.3%, respectively. The UK market also doubled compared with the same period last year.

Vietnam shipped more than 10,000 tons of pepper to India in the first nine months, earning $71 million. This was an 8% increase in volume and a 64.3% jump in value compared with the same period last year. The average export price of Vietnamese pepper exports reached $7,034 per ton, 50% higher than last year.

However, behind these impressive figures lies concern about domestic supply. The stocks remain low and the new harvest is not yet underway. Therefore, businesses say Vietnam may have to import a large amount of pepper in the final months of 2025. This is to keep up with growing demand for processing and exports.

VPSA representatives stated that Vietnam will maintain increased pepper imports until the new harvest in February 2026. This is due to end-of-year market demand, which is usually 10–15% higher. Although the new crop can increase by 5–10% compared to last year’s 180,000 tons, short-term supply remains tight.

Experts say Vietnam’s pepper industry is seeing strong growth in 2025 thanks to policies that promote deep processing. The measures also help improve product quality and expand export markets.

As the world’s leading pepper exporter, Vietnam is aiming not only to reach the record of $1.5 billion in exports. The country also seeks to enhance the value of its agricultural products through deep processing. Additionally, it aims to build a national brand for Vietnamese “black gold” on the global spice map.
