Vietnam’s mango exports grow strongly, which ranks 13th in the world

Vietnam's mango exports

In the first quarter of 2025, Vietnam’s mango exports reached over $88.5 million. This value increased of 15.9% compared to the same period in 2024. The proportion of mango exports in the total value of fruit and vegetable exports also rose to 7.61%. In terms of export value, mangoes currently rank fourth after dragon fruit, durian, and bananas.

Vietnamese mangoes stand out thanks to their sweet and delicate flavor, thick flesh, low fiber, and distinctive aroma. Besides fresh mangoes, many Vietnamese mango companies have strengthened the deep processing of mango products. These activities will meet the increasingly stringent demands of international markets.

Currently, Vietnam’s mango exports are present in more than 30 countries. These markets include demanding markets such as Japan, the United States, and the European Union (EU). Vietnamese mangoes contribute to increasing the value of Vietnamese agricultural products in the global market. Thanks to this, Vietnam has risen to become the thirteenth largest mango exporter in the world.

According to the statistics, the total mango cultivation area in Vietnam currently reaches over 114,000 hectares. It generates an annual output ranging from 700,000 to 800,000 tons. Among these, the Mekong Delta region is the main growing area with about 49,900 hectares.

Several localities with large cultivation areas and production volumes include Son La and Dong Thap. Specifically, Dong Thap province has more than 14,000 hectares of mango plantations, producing nearly 140,000 tons annually.

By 2030, the government aims to increase the nationwide mango cultivation area to approximately 140,000 hectares. Accordingly, Vietnam’s mango will achieve an annual output of 1.5 million tons, and an export turnover of $650 million.

Vietnamese mangoes are attractive due to their high quality, reasonable prices, and long harvesting season. In particular, two specialty mango varieties, Cat Loc and Cat Chu, are highly valued in the Chinese market for their delicious, rich flavor that suits consumer preferences.

Statistics show that Vietnam produces about one million tons of mangoes annually. Besides China, Vietnam also exports mangoes to many other demanding markets such as the United States, South Korea, and Japan.

Currently, nearly 2,000 hectares of mangoes in the Mekong Delta region have been certified with Vietgap and Globalgap. These Vietnam’s mangoes will be able to meet the strict requirements of importing partners.

Vietnam also has the advantage of off-season mango production, an important factor that helps increase export value during periods when China faces shortages. During this time, the price of first-grade mangoes sometimes reached up to 100,000 VND per kilogram.

However, starting from May, when the domestic mango season in China begins, the demand from that market drops sharply. It causes Vietnamese mango prices in the domestic market to sometimes fall significantly.
