The production value of An Giang province’s agricultural products has risen. Initially, they began with typical products such as Vietnam’s green asparagus. This growth results from the province’s efforts to shift from lower-value crops to those with higher economic returns.

Recently, the cultivation area of Vietnam’s green asparagus has expanded across several provinces. Particularly, a large share in An Giang has satisfied both local and neighboring demand, resulting in high economic efficiency.

In Chau Phu district, the agricultural sector focuses on production models of high-value crops. Among these, Vietnam’s green asparagus has initially shown promising economic results. The total area of green asparagus cultivation in the district is 4.5 hectares, mainly in Binh Thuy commune. The average yield reaches 13 tons per hectare

Chau Phu district identifies fruit trees and vegetables as key products for economic development. Accordingly, it plans to establish a specialized vegetable production area of 500 hectares in Binh Thuy commune.

The plan involves cultivating selected high-value crops and utilizing advanced production technologies to ensure clean products. This approach necessitates both an expansion of the cultivation area and the replacement of less efficient crops.

The district has been finalizing plans and establishing objectives to enhance residents’ productivity and quality, while expanding cultivation areas. Additionally, it aims to capitalize on the demonstrated economic potential and effectiveness of Vietnamese green asparagus. This opens a positive direction for Vietnamese agricultural products in the locality.

Chau Phu aims to boost the yield, quality, value, and competitiveness of its agricultural products, with a focus on Vietnam’s green asparagus. To this end, the district will pursue innovations in its agricultural growth model through targeted investment projects.

Notably, the district is establishing a production-to-consumption linkage chain for vegetables, particularly green asparagus. This initiative spans an 800-hectare area, in line with plans for the 2021–2025 period.

Beyond green asparagus, crops such as soybeans, Japanese okra, and water spinach for seeds are incorporated into the program. All of these contribute to the production and consumption linkage chain.

To achieve a breakthrough in agricultural restructuring in the coming period, Chau Phu district has set the goal of attracting enterprises to invest in high-tech agricultural products. In doing so, the district aims to promote sustainable development.

Projects that apply modern technology and foster coordination between farmers and enterprises via agricultural product consumption contracts provide support to residents of Chau Phu district. This support includes investment assistance and technical measures. Additionally, they gain access to stable markets, larger production scales, improved competitiveness, and gradually higher incomes.

Chau Phu district will continue to plan concentrated production areas for Vietnam’s green asparagus. At the same time, scientific and technical methods will be applied to improve production value and efficiency. This will be achieved through the expansion of green asparagus cultivation models in Khanh Hoa and Binh Thuy communes. Specifically, it will involve 2,720 asparagus plants and 7,500 seeds.

This is a new and effective model, providing a new direction for local residents. In addition, it promotes the application of new technologies in production and steers farmers toward concentrated, safe, and sustainable agricultural practices.
