When mentioning Đoài Phương Commune (Hà Nội), many people immediately think of its heavily fruit-laden jackfruit orchards. These orchards are known for their distinctive aroma and rich sweetness that sets them apart.
Đoài Phương Commune currently has nearly 70,000 jackfruit trees covering more than 40 hectares. The trees are mainly concentrated in hilly areas and household gardens. Annual jackfruit output exceeds 3,000 tons, making it one of the commune’s key crops. A notable feature of Đoài Phương jackfruit is its consistent fruit quality. The fruit has bright yellow flesh, thick edible pulp, little fiber, a rich sweetness, and a natural aroma. In addition to traditional varieties, local farmers have also developed high-yielding varieties such as Changai Thai jackfruit and ultra-early golden jackfruit to meet diverse market demands.
Hà Thị Tươi from Phúc Lộc Village said her family has around 1,000 square meters of garden land planted with jackfruit. Some of the trees are nearly 70 years old. During each harvest season, a single tree can produce 60–80 fruits, with an average weight of 5–10 kilograms per fruit. With selling prices ranging from VND 15,000 to 20,000 per kilogram, her jackfruit orchard generates an average income of VND 50–80 million per year. She added that jackfruit is well suited to local soil conditions, has low pest pressure, requires relatively low care costs, and delivers high economic efficiency. Many other households have also chosen to develop jackfruit cultivation on a commercial scale. Thanks to relatively stable market demand, traders often come directly to orchards to purchase the fruit. For households with larger growing areas, annual income from jackfruit can reach VND 100 million to several hundred million.
According to Nguyễn Văn Cường, Chairman of the Đoài Phương Commune Farmers’ Association, jackfruit is currently one of the crops providing high economic returns in the area. Compared with many other fruit trees, jackfruit has advantages such as easy cultivation, long lifespan, stable productivity, and suitability for local production conditions.
Jackfruit cultivation also contributes to job creation and stimulates local commercial activities. During the harvest season, many workers participate in fruit picking, transportation, preliminary processing, and product trading.
Local authorities are focusing on supporting farmers in improving production quality. They are also promoting the application of technical advances in cultivation and product preservation, while encouraging safe and sustainable production models that meet increasingly demanding market requirements.
Nguyễn Thế Hùng, Chairman of the Đoài Phương Commune People’s Committee, said that the locality identifies jackfruit as an agricultural product with strong advantages. In the coming period, the commune will continue coordinating with relevant agencies to support farmers in production techniques and connect consumption channels. It will also gradually build the Đoài Phương jackfruit brand, creating new momentum for local agricultural economic development.
Alongside expanding growing areas, the locality also plans to increase the added value of jackfruit through processing and developing OCOP products. It also aims to link cultivation with experiential tourism. This direction is considered suitable for enhancing product value and creating more stable market opportunities for local farmers.
