To ensure a successful season, the local governments have taken early actions on Vietnamese lychee. Specially, they issued technical guidance on cultivation and pest control. Especially, they make a particular focus on managing fruit borer infestations, a major threat to productivity. Food safety supervision has also been prioritized, with inspections targeting pesticide residues and heavy metals in Vietnam’s lychee.

Currently, there are 469 growing area codes covering over 19,300 hectares and 55 packing facility codes have been granted certification for export. The main markets are China, Australia, Thailand, Japan, and the United States. Vietnam’s lychee export companies are under strict supervision and are ready for the 2025 season.

In terms of processing, the majority of Vietnamese lychee (around 97%) is consumed as fresh fruit. In the meanwhile, only 3% undergoes deep processing into juice, frozen products, or canned goods. Drying facilities and processing enterprises have completed their preparations and are ready for the harvest season. Plant quarantine efforts are also ready with three irradiation facilities and three fumigation centers.

Notably, starting from the 2025 season, Japan has authorized Vietnam to independently supervise the treatment process. This change helps reduce time and costs for farmers and export businesses of Vietnamese lychee.

The current lychee production figures are a positive signal for the agricultural sector, in general. Additionally, lychee continues to affirm its position as one of the key agricultural products of northern Vietnam.
