To promote Vietnam’s cashew nuts, the government should strengthen the capacity for trade promotion activities. At the same time, they should improve the competitiveness of local enterprises.
Binh Phuoc province is the “cashew capital” of Vietnam. The province accounts for more than 50% of the country’s total cashew production. Cashew trees provide the main source of income for thousands of farming households. Also, they make a significant contribution to the province’s agricultural export turnover.

The fertile red basalt soil combined with gently sloping terrain helps cashew trees develop well. Vietnam’s cashew nuts result in high yields and meet export standards. Currently, Binh Phuoc has hundreds of cashew processing facilities, ranging from household-scale operations to large enterprises. The processing procedures have been modernized with many automated steps to ensure the quality of cashew nuts meets international standards.
Some outstanding cashew products include salted roasted cashews, honey-glazed cashews, wasabi-flavored, and cheese-flavored cashews. To date, Binh Phuoc cashews have reached about 50 countries and territories worldwide. In which, there are major markets, such as the United States, European coountries, China, South Korea, and Japan. Vietnam is currently the world’s largest cashew exporter, with Binh Phuoc contributing significantly to this achievement.
Mr. Thuc, an provincial official, said that in recent years, the province has proposed many trade promotion activities. Positively, they have achieved results, thereby expanding domestic and international markets. The province regularly organize trade connection programs between enterprises, cooperatives, and farmers to create supply-demand linkages.
Also, the province regularly updates the technical barriers from the importing countries. At the same time, it encourages enterprises and cooperatives to participate in trade fairs and exhibitions. This helps connect trade, expand export markets for key sectors, including cashew nuts.

Experts note that although Binh Phuoc’s cashew industry is a strong sector, it still faces many challenges. Specifically, they include climate change, competition from countries, and increasingly strict market requirements on quality and food safety. However, thanks to support policies, and the application of technology in production, the industry is still developing strongly.
Mr. Thanh, Director of Nhu Hoang Cooperative, said the export market for cashew nuts increasingly requires strict quality standards, traceability, and food safety standards. Trade promotion activities have helped the cooperative update information on regulations and support meeting international standards to maintain and expand the market.
“Currently, our salted roasted cashew nuts have been awarded 4-star OCOP certification by Binh Phuoc Province. Through trade promotion programs, our company has had opportunities to directly approach importers and establish long-term cooperative relationships. This helps reduce dependence on intermediaries and optimize profits. So far, our products have been available to some markets such as China and Taiwan. In the future, we will continue to expand markets, including Southeast Asian countries,” Mr. Thanh shared.

To enhance the competiveness of Vietnam’s cashew nuts, the province will continue to disseminate information about commitments and ways to take advantage of FTA commitments in potential and new markets. Through this, it will promote advertising and trade promotion of Binh Phuoc’s key products.
Experts also emphasize that for Binh Phuoc, the “cashew capital”, to maintain its competitive advantage, the industry needs to strengthen the application of technology, especially on e-commerce channels and trade promotion activities. Alongside that, attention should be paid to improving product quality and expanding export markets.
