Binh Lieu is an ideal place for the growth of various high-value forestry trees. In addition to star anise, Saigon’s cinnamon has long been associated with the region. Specifically, Saigon’s cinnamon trees are suitable with the local soil conditions. From March to May, cinnamon-growing households in Binh Lieu focus on harvesting the spring crop.
These days in Binh Lieu, along the roadsides, it’s easy to see locals busily stripping cinnamon barks. Tourists can hear their cheerful chatter echoing through the mountains and forests. A vibrant, lively rhythm fills the highland air — a clear sign that the cinnamon harvest season has arrived.

During each harvest season of Saigon’s cinnamon, the forests are bustling with people stripping cinnamon barks. Also, the collection points at local households are equally busy. After harvesting, local people will bring cinnamon barks for preliminary processing and sorting.
The sorting process is very important, which will differentiate cinnamon sticks and broken cinnamon for full utilization. Thanks to this process, local residents are able to maximize the value extracted from the Saigon’s cinnamon tree.
According to Mr. Duong, Head of Binh Lieu District, the district not only plants normal cinnamon trees. Also, Binh Lieu is developing organic Saigon cinnamon cultivation models, as well. In Huc Dong commune, there are more 100 hectares, which are now part of an organic cinnamon cultivation project.

Doing well these instructions will improve the value of cinnamon production in the region. In addition, it will help expand the area under organic cinnamon cultivation in the near future,” Mr. Duong emphasized.
Mr. Dung, Chairman of Huc Dong Commune, stated that there are currently 498 households growing cinnamon across a total area of 412 hectares. Each year, the commune implements directives, raises awareness, and encourages residents to shift crop structures. They are encouraged to focus on Saigon’s cinnamon due to its suitability to the local climate and soil conditions.
Cinnamon yields an estimated value of around 520 million Vietanmese dongs per hectare. At present, there are six cinnamon purchasing facilities operating in the commune to support local farmers.
