In the first quarter of 2025, Vietnamese pomelo exports reached over $17.5 million, up 60.6%. Fresh pomelo would be one of Vietnam’s top 10 fruit exports by value.
According to the Vietnam Customs Department, fruit and vegetable exports in quarter 1 of 2025 reached $1.164 billion. It went down 9.2% from quarter 1 of 2024 and 22.7% from quarter 4 of 2024.
Nevertheless, many other fruit and vegetable products from Vietnam are still showing positive growth signals, including pomelos.
Vietnam’s fresh pomelos are not only consumed domestically but also exported to many countries. Among them, green-skin pomelos dominated the most, mainly from provinces prioritized under the trade development program for mountainous, remote, and island areas, such as Long An, Ben Tre, Soc Trang, and Hau Giang.

In the first quarter of 2025, Vietnamese pomelo exports brought in over $17.5 million, up 60.6% year-on-year. With this result, pomelos officially entered the group of Vietnam’s top 10 fruit and nut exports by value. It raised the market share from 0.85% to 1.5% in just three months.
To date, Vietnamese pomelos have been present in 12 countries and territories. At the end of 2022, fresh pomelos became the seventh Vietnamese fruit—after mango, longan, lychee, dragon fruit, rambutan, and star apple—allowed for import into the United States following five years of negotiations.
Similarly, in December 2022, pomelos gained official market access to New Zealand. It marked a breakthrough that drove strong export growth. By April 2024, South Korea became the latest market to “grant a visa” to Vietnam’s pomelos, further expanding export opportunities and potential.

Vietnamese pomelo exports
The recent growth in Vietnamese pomelo exports has not been a matter of chance. Also, it reflected the effectiveness of agricultural market-opening policies and improvements in cultivation area quality, as well. The acceptance of official pomelo imports by the US, New Zealand, and more recently South Korea demonstrates that this fruit has met strict requirements for phytosanitary inspection, traceability, and food safety.
In the US, Vietnamese pomelo exports have an advantage thanks to their harvest season complementing domestic supply and competitive pricing. New Zealand is a small but highly demanding market. South Korea, with an annual fruit import value of over $2 billion, offers significant potential if domestic enterprises effectively tap into distribution channels.
