Mr. Thuat, Director of Duc Chinh Cooperative, said: “This season, Vietnamese carrot farms benefited from favorable weather. Therefore, it resulted in carrot yields higher than any previous year, reaching between two tons per sao. This is the first time carrot prices have doubled compared to last year. On average, people sold carrots at the farm gate for 7,000 – 8,000 VND per kilogram”.
The total carrot planting area in the commune was more than 360 hectares. The total output of fresh carrot reached more than 16,000 tons. This season, Duc Chinh commune achieved great success in the winter crop, mainly with carrots.
The high yield and output are the result of many years of active support from the government. In addition, the JICA organization and Korea’s KNC, who have trained local farmers in sowing, care, and automatic irrigation techniques to ensure carrots meet Vietgap standards.
At this point, basically, carrot farmers have learned how to grow and care for their crops according to safety standards. All products have been tested and assessed as safe, with no samples contaminated by bacteria or failing safety regulations.

Most foreign importers evaluate Vietnamese carrot farms from Duc Chinh and Cam Van communes. These communes are two of the largest specialized carrot-growing areas in the district. These carrots meet the requirements for demanding markets like Japan and South Korea.
With active involvement from specialized agencies, Cam Giang district has established concentrated carrot production areas. These areas in Duc Chinh and Cam Van communes meet Vietgap standards. Compared to rice cultivation, carrot farming generates income two times higher. This is a vegetable farming area planned as a concentrated region with high economic value.
In recent years, the district has invested in infrastructure for the specialized growing region. This includes canal systems, internal roads, and advanced water-saving irrigation systems worth about 30 billion VND. Additionally, to preserve products after harvest, the district has used ODA loan funds to support buyers. These funds help them invest in cold storage facilities.
Mr. Thien, Head of Cam Giang district, shared: “To ensure export requirements, our farmers have applied all procedures according to Vietgap standards. The district organizes training courses to educate households on production methods. These courses focus on measures to produce safe carrots that bring high economic value per unit area”.

“We have encouraged farmers to apply scientific and technical advances in production. These include advanced automatic irrigation systems that save water, regulate irrigation amounts, and control water quality in production,” he added.
To increase awareness of carrot products, the district has organized many trade promotion campaigns nationwide. They have also held campaigns in countries with high demand for Vietnamese carrots. Therefore, many domestic and foreign enterprises and supermarkets have become familiar with and sell Vietgap carrots of the district.
With this year’s yield and output, farmers harvest carrots worth from 10 to 12 million VND per sao. Many households with about 2 hectares of carrot fields have earned nearly 600 million VND.
Vietnamese carrot farms have become a strong source of high income for the people in Cam Giang district. From being a key traditional local product, carrots have now become a flagship economic product. They contribute to poverty reduction for farmers in the district.
