Minh Khai Commune is one of the traditional craft villages in Hoài Đức District, Hanoi. From simple ingredients such as rice grains and arrowroot, local artisans have created its well-known Vietnamese rice vermicelli.

To improve product quality, Minh Khai Commune has developed a number of OCOP (One Commune One Product) items. These include arrowroot glass noodles, various types of dried rice noodles, and spices.

Since 1960, villagers in Minh Khai Commune have preserved and developed the craft of producing Vietnamese rice vermicelli. It has also been continuously expanded across generations.

Mr. Nguyễn Chí Thao is the Vice Chairman of Minh Khai Commune People’s Committee. According to him, the commune currently has more than 200 households engaged in producing Vietnamese rice vermicelli. Among them, dozens of households produce between 0.5 and 1 ton of dried noodles per day. This craft provides high economic efficiency and stable, sustainable income for local residents.

A typical example is the household of Mr. Đỗ Danh Chí in Minh Hòa 1 Village. Mr. Chí is not only a successful entrepreneur but also a pioneer in introducing modern production technology. He established the Danh Chí dried noodle production factory. Also, he invested nearly one billion VND in a modern production line to improve productivity and expand production scale.

In addition, he actively researches processing methods for brown rice noodles, rice-based products, cakes, and brown rice tea. As a result, Mr. Chí has developed Vietnam’s high-quality noodles that do not use additives or chemicals.

Danh Chí’s brown rice noodle products are chewy, tasty, and visually appealing. Also, they have become widely known and trusted by consumers with annual sales of hundreds of tons. In 2022, he registered to join the One Commune One Product (OCOP) program.

His brown rice noodle and pho products achieved 3-star OCOP certification, helping to further increase consumption. In the coming time, he plans to continue improving product quality and packaging design in order to upgrade to 4-star OCOP standards or higher.

One of the signature products of Minh Khai Commune is “xứ Đoài” arrowroot starch. According to Mrs. Đỗ Thị Nhung in Minh Hòa 2 Village, her family began producing arrowroot starch in 1993. In 2017, with support from the Hoài Đức District Department of Economy, her family established the Minh Khuê agricultural product business household.

To build a brand for their arrowroot starch product, the facility changed its product name, registered business licenses, and protected the Minh Khuê Food brand. It also obtained barcodes, developed traceability stamps, and invested in modern factories and machinery.

With improvements in quality, packaging, and branding, Minh Khuê’s arrowroot starch has gained the trust of businesses, distributors, restaurants, supermarkets, and customers in many provinces and cities. The product has also achieved 4-star OCOP certification.

Currently, Minh Khai Commune has hundreds of households producing and processing various agricultural products. Among these, spice and seasoning production is a relatively new sector that brings high economic value.

A typical example is the Hùng Thắng spice production and trading facility of Ms. Phí Thị Dung in Minh Hiệp 1 Village. Recognizing spices as a promising product group, she and her family boldly invested billions of VND in a modern production line.

The facility now generates tens of billions of VND in annual revenue, making it one of the most successful household businesses in the locality. With the principle of prioritizing consumer health, the facility selects high-quality raw materials and applies modern, closed production processes.

Ms. Phí Thị Dung said the facility has built a distribution network across more than 20 provinces and cities. It has also exported products to Russia and Eastern European countries. Participating in the OCOP program, the Hùng Thắng facility has five certified 4-star OCOP products. Specifically, they include chili sauce, ketchup, sesame sauce, sweet-and-sour sauce, and rice vinegar.

According to Mr. Nguyễn Chí Thao, Minh Khai Commune currently has 24 OCOP-certified products rated 3 to 4 stars, with potential for 5-star recognition. Of these, 16 are products such as Vietnamese rice vermicelli and arrowroot noodles, and 8 are spice products.

In the coming time, the commune will continue to promote and encourage producers to actively participate in the OCOP program. This is aimed at enhancing market reputation, increasing sales, and improving local incomes.
