This winter season, the Lien Hiep Agricultural Cooperative has partnered with an export company to grow cabbage in Ha Nam province. Accordingly, the total cultivation area consists of four hectares of Vietnam’s export-quality cabbage for Japanese market. As an estimate, the quantity of fresh cabbage will reach 80 metric tons.

Vietnam’s export-quality cabbage
According to the agreement, the total volume of Vietnam’s export-quality cabbage is 100 tons. The purchasing period extends from December 2019 to February 2020. The Cooperative should follow Globalgap (good agricultural practices) standards. These standards are the highest benchmarks for clean and sustainable agricultural production today.
The cabbage farming area under Globalgap standards has undergone significant improvements compared to previous practices. Each field is equipped with a detailed logbook at the entrance, documenting the cabbage variety, seedling date, transplanting date, and expected harvest time. The Cooperative also applies modern farming techniques, ranging from plastic mulch covering the beds to automated irrigation systems using pipelines along the crop rows.

In addition, the irrigation water used for cabbage cultivation also meets strict requirements, having been tested and certified by the organization responsible for Globalgap compliance from the initial site survey and selection stages.
Mr. Hiep, Director of the Cooperative, stated: “We recognized that this is the highest standard in clean agricultural production. Additionally, we export Vietnamese high-quality cabbage for the demanding Japanese market. Therefore, we have strictly followed the training and guidelines. After a period of implementation, we are confident that our cabbage will be certified under the Globalgap standards.”

These are the first agricultural production models in the province to follow Globalgap standards. Prior to implementation and production partnerships, the Globalgap certification body conducted comprehensive site surveys to select suitable locations. Also, they tested soil and water samples to ensure they meet production requirements.
The certification body is responsible for providing guidance and monitoring throughout the production process. On the part of the producers, they should fully comply with all procedural standards.

Ha Nam province’s agricultural production is moving towards clean processes, with strong partnerships between farmers and businesses. This approach leverages the advantages of agricultural zones and effectively applies technical procedures following Globalgap standards.
Agricultural enterprises currently have a high demand for export-quality produce. Specifically, the annual volume is around 2,000 tons of various clean vegetables with a significant focus on fresh cabbage. Therefore, successfully implementing the Globalgap production model will create conditions to expand linked farming areas and enhance production value on the fields.
