Hai Duong’s cabbage is one of the key vegetables that has received OCOP program of the provinc. Thanks to production following the Vietgap process, it is guaranteed to be safe and of high quality. Therefore, Hai Duong’s cabbage has been increasingly affirming its value in the market.
Mrs. Lam, a local farmer in Gia Loc district, cultivates 8 sao (approximately 0.3 hectares) of cabbage. After receiving training in Vietgap-standard care, Mrs. Lam noticed clear differences compared to traditional farming methods. She shared that everything, from sanitation, seed selection, fertilizer and pesticide use to harvesting, follows a strict process. Also, she carefully records for monitoring purposes.

“It is complex to apply this cultivation method because it involves many steps. However, Hai Duong’s cabbage is safe for user and has high quality, so we follow it seriously. I also find that the vegetables grow better and have fewer pests,” Mrs. Lam said.
Since 2022, Gia Tan Cooperative has planned nearly 8 hectares to implement the Vietgap production process, involving 43 households. Mr. Tuyen, Director of the Cooperative, said: “We had to survey the implementation site and gauge public support. We chose Gia Tan because local farmers here specialize in cabbage farming. Moreover, they have a high sense of responsibility in agricultural production.”
To ensure fresh cababge that follow a safe process, Tan Tien Commune places great emphasis on inspection. Each year, the commune conducts at least two inspections to check if farmers are following the process and keeping proper records.
Hai Duong’s cabbage boxes
Every day, cooperative staff visit the fields to monitor farmers’ activities and provide timely guidance. Local vegetable purchasing units also participate in these inspections to ensure safe, high-quality products. “Therefore, Hai Duong’s cabbage from Tan Tien Commune ensures safety for users,” the staff affirmed.
In 2023, Hai Duong’s cabbage from the agricultural cooperatives of Tan Tien, Gia Tan, and Hoang Dieu were awarded 3-star OCOP certifications. Earlier, since 2019, cabbage from the Tan Minh Duc Cooperative (Pham Tran Commune) had already received a 4-star OCOP certification. The total production area is over 50 hectares.
To build and develop cabbage as an OCOP product, Gia Loc District has implemented multiple solutions. Ms. Hanh, a governor, said: “We participated in surveying planting areas, organized information campaigns and training sessions. Moreover, we supported the development of domestic area codes, barcodes, and traceability labels to facilitate market distribution.”
Hai Duong’s cababge on the supermarket
To support farmers in establishing safe vegetable-growing areas, in 2023, Tan Tien Commune provided financial support of 10 million VND per hectare. Mr. Nganh, Chairman of Tan Tien Commune, said: “We supported farmers in building field borders, purchasing seedlings, fertilizers. In addition, we supported more to help establish the local OCOP vegetable production area. The commune is also building a wide road to the fields to facilitate transportation of Hai Duong’s agricultural goods.”
Since being certified under the OCOP program, it has become much easier for farmers to sell Vietnam’s agricultural products. Mr. Thu, Director of the Tan Minh Duc Cooperative, shared that their cabbage products are now more easily sold in large quantities. Also, they have selling prices higher than the market average prices. This has significantly increased farmers’ incomes.
