On 22nd March, the Korean Minister of Agriculture visited the production area of Vietnamese premium carrots in Duc Chinh commune. In the same day, she and her deligation held a working session with Hai Duong provincial leaders. They expressed their satisfaction with the carrot production and preliminary processing in Duc Chinh commune.

The delegation included representatives from the Department of International Cooperation of Vietnam.

Mr. Quan, Vice Chairman of Hai Duong Province, welcomed and worked with the delegation at Duc Chinh Commune. Also in attendance were leaders from Hai Duong province, leaders of Cam Giang district, and Duc Chinh commune.

In his speech, Mr. Quan introduced the delegation to the socio-economic development of Hai Duong province.

According to him, Hai Duong has approximately 105,000 hectares of agricultural land and a well-developed transportation system. Therefore, it enables fast and efficient trade and goods transportation. The province’s agricultural production is oriented toward large-scale, high-tech, commodity-based production following Vietgap and Globalgap safety standards.

Hai Duong’s agricultural products have been available to high-standard markets such as South Korea, and Europe. Especially, lychees and carrots have been key export items to South Korea.

Specifically for carrots, Hai Duong grows about 1,500 hectares annually. The volume yields 100,000 tons, with an estimated value of VND 800 billion ($32 million) per year. There are around 40% of the carrot yield is exported to South Korea. It makes this country the most important market, playing a decisive role in the success of the province’s carrot production and export strategy.

Vice Chairman Quan emphasized that in recent times, Korea has provided significant support in resolving obstacles. Thereby, it has enabled the continued export of Vietnamese premium carrots to South Korea.

Additionally, the Korean government has provided a non-refundable aid package of approximately $2.6 million. The package has supported to build and upgrade facilities and cold storage systems at Duc Chinh and Tan Minh Duc Cooperatives. This support has helped both cooperatives preserve Vietnamese agricultural products at the highest quality to meet market requirements.

On behalf of the provincial leadership, Mr. Quan requested continued support from the Korean Ministry to facilitate the export of carrots and other quality agricultural products from Hai Duong to Korea. He also called for further assistance in building more agricultural processing and preservation facilities across the province.

Hai Duong province commits to creating favorable conditions for Korean businesses to invest and cooperate. Especially, cooperating in the fields of agricultural production, processing, and post-harvest handling.

After visiting the safe carrot cultivation area and the carrot processing facility at Duc Chinh Cooperative, Minister Song Mi Ri Ung expressed her satisfaction with the production operations for export-oriented carrots in the locality.

The Minister hopes that with the existing infrastructure and equipment, the area will continue to produce even high-quality carrots. She also expressed confidence that this visit will strengthen and enhance the cooperation between South Korea and Hai Duong.

The Minister also expressed hope that Vietnam in general and Hai Duong in particular will pay more attention to Korean agricultural products and encouraged the province to continue facilitating Korean businesses investing in the region.
