Prices of Vietnam’s tea exports in the first five months of 2026 rose by nearly 5% year-on-year. Meanwhile, several markets, including Taiwan (China), the United States, Russia, and the Philippines, recorded positive growth.
According to statistics from the Vietnam Customs Department, Vietnam exported 8.82 thousand tons of tea in May 2026. The exports reached USD 16.1 million, up 0.7% in volume and 2.4% in value compared with April 2026. However, exports declined by 18.1% in volume and 14.1% in value compared with May 2025. The average export price of Vietnamese tea in May 2026 reached USD 1,830 per ton, up 4.9% year-on-year.
In the first five months of 2026, Vietnam’s tea exports totaled 43.2 thousand tons. The exports reached USD 74.7 million, down 7.1% in volume and 2.5% in value compared with the same period in 2025. The average export price during the period reached USD 1,730 per ton. This represented a 4.9% increase year-on-year.
The average export price of Vietnamese tea increased slightly compared with the same period in 2025, signaling positive shifts in the market. However, the industry continues to face intense competition from major tea-producing countries such as India, Kenya, and Sri Lanka.
Vietnam’s tea exports
In the first five months of 2026, the market structure for Vietnam’s tea exports continued to undergo significant changes. Taiwan (China) remained the largest export market for Vietnamese tea exports, importing 4.8 thousand tons worth USD 9.2 million. This went up 4.3% in volume and 17% in value compared with the same period in 2025.
The average export price of tea shipped to Taiwan (China) reached USD 1,912 per ton, an increase of 12.1% year-on-year. In contrast, tea exports to China and Pakistan continued to decline. Exports to China totaled 4.4 thousand tons valued at USD 6.8 million. This was down 9.8% in volume and 14.1% in value compared with the same period in 2025. Tea exports to Pakistan recorded a sharper decline, reaching 4.1 thousand tons worth USD 7.3 million. This was down 70.6% in volume and 72% in value year-on-year.
Meanwhile, Vietnam’s tea exports to several traditional markets, including Russia and the United States, increased. Exports to Russia reached 2.8 thousand tons valued at USD 4.8 million, up 13.2% in volume and 2.7% in value compared with the same period in 2025. Exports of Vietnamese tea to the United States totaled 2.8 thousand tons worth USD 4.7 million. This represented growth of 3.9% in volume and 14.5% in value year-on-year. Tea exports to India and the Philippines also posted positive growth.

Specifically, Vietnam’s tea exports to India increased by 12% in volume and 18.1% in value. Meanwhile, exports to the Philippines surged by 84.2% in volume and 93.6% in value compared with the same period in 2025.
Although Vietnam’s tea export structure is shifting positively toward markets such as Taiwan (China), Russia, the United States, and the Philippines, the industry still faces significant challenges. The average export price remains below the global average at only USD 1,730 per ton. In addition, a substantial share of exports to Southeast Asian markets such as Malaysia and Indonesia continues to consist of unprocessed tea.
According to data from the Taiwan (China) Ministry of Finance, tea imports into Taiwan (China) reached 7.2 thousand tons worth USD 25.2 million in the first four months of 2026. This went down 6.3% in volume but up 9.1% in value compared with the same period in 2025. Notably, the average import price rose sharply by 16.4% year-on-year to USD 3,505 per ton. This indicates a clear shift in consumer demand toward higher-quality and higher-value tea products.
Organic green tea from Vietnam
Among Taiwan’s major tea suppliers are Vietnam, Sri Lanka, India, Japan, and Indonesia. Vietnam was the largest supplier of tea during the first four months of 2026, exporting 3.56 thousand tons valued at USD 6.5 million. This was down 3.7% in volume but up 7.9% in value compared with the same period in 2025. Vietnam accounted for 46.9% of Taiwan’s total tea import volume and 25.7% of its total import value.
Sri Lanka ranked second, supplying 1.2 thousand tons worth USD 5.7 million. This was down 13.1% in volume and 8.7% in value year-on-year. India ranked third, exporting 825 tons valued at USD 1.8 million. This was up 8.6% in volume and 3.7% in value compared with the same period in 2025.
The average import price of tea from Vietnam reached USD 1,817 per ton, up 12% from a year earlier. Although this remained below the overall market average, the increase demonstrates that Vietnam is maintaining its position as a leading supplier by volume. Moreover, it shows that the country is gradually enhancing the value of its tea products. As a result, the country is moving away from the low-price segment toward higher-quality tea products that meet stricter standards.
