Over the years, many cooperatives in Ha Giang province have established joint ventures and partnerships with local residents to produce, process, and distribute agricultural products. They have focused especially on Vietnamese chili products.

The linkage chain between cooperatives and the people has contributed to transforming crop and livestock structures. It has also helped create jobs and increase income for rural communities.

At the end of 2023, a partnered company (based in Hanoi) collaborated with local authorities to survey farming areas. Also, it signed cooperation agreements with seven cooperatives in Ha Giang province to develop raw material zones.

Hundreds of households from 18 communes across the province have registered to participate in the chili cultivation linkage chain. Accordingly, the total cultivation area covers with more than 56 hectares.

After four months, the chili variety has proven highly suitable for Ha Giang’s weather and soil. Notably, despite two prolonged periods of severe cold and drought, none of the chili plants died. This demonstrates the crop’s resilience to cold and drought, as well as its strong disease resistance.

Currently, all the chili areas are beginning to ripen. Also, the harvest period will last continuously for 6 to 8 months. The average yield is expectable to reach 20 tons per hectare. Based on the company’s committed purchase price, farmers can earn about 340 million VND per hectare.

Given these promising initial results, the model offers a new direction for agricultural production and diversifies the province’s export products. It also creates employment opportunities, increases income, and promotes a shift in production mindset among the local population.

Ha Giang provinnce recently organized a field conference to observe and exchange experiences in developing raw material zones for chili processing and export. The event included local government leaders and many agricultural cooperatives across the province. They discussed many solutions to improve the effectiveness of linkages, expand cultivation areas, and address coordination challenges.

At the same time, participating localities were encouraged to implement support mechanisms and establish production-linked groups or teams to enhance efficiency. They were also advised to consider integrating the model into livelihood projects under the National Target Program.

In 2024, the partnered company plans to continue its partnership by expanding chili cultivation to an additional 150 hectares in Ha Giang province.
