During a visit to the growing area of Vietnam carrot exports in Tue Tinh Commune, Hai Phong City Party Secretary Le Tien Chau gave specific instructions. He asked the Department of Agriculture and Environment and local authorities to continue paying attention to and creating favorable conditions for farmers to expand production, enhance crop value, and improve livelihoods.
On the afternoon of January 14, Mr. Le Tien Chau visited the carrot cultivation zone in Tue Tinh Commune. There, he expressed his pleasure and encouragement at the strong development of carrot cultivation. This is one of the city’s key agricultural products that has established its value in the international markets.
He also praised local efforts in developing key agricultural production areas, which have contributed to higher incomes for residents. He called on relevant sectors to continue providing support in planning and infrastructure development.

In addition, he emphasized the need to apply science and technology to production for Vietnam carrot exports. He also highlighted the importance of strengthening value-chain linkages and expanding stable and sustainable consumer markets.
Mr. Chau emphasized that the city consistently creates favorable conditions for businesses and localities to develop production and business activities. He also requested relevant departments, sectors and local authorities to proactively review and address difficulties and bottlenecks.
At the same time, he urged them to enhance coordination efficiency. In doing so, they would contribute to the successful implementation of the city’s socio-economic development goals for 2026 and the years to come.
According to the statistics, the city’s total annual carrot cultivation area stands at around 1,450 hectares. Of this, approximately 1,300 hectares are winter crops. Production is available mainly in Tue Tinh Commune with 510 hectares and Thai Tan Commune with 209 hectares.
The remaining area is available in several other communes such as An Phu, Le Dai Hanh and Chi Linh. The total estimated output reaches at about 65,000–70,000 tonnes.

Vietnamese carrot farms
In Hai Phong, farmers plant carrots from early October and harvest from late January through April each year. Production value per hectare of Vietnam carrot exports reaches VND 280–330 million. Meanwhile, profits can reach at around VND 170–190 million per hectare.
At present, purchasing agents have bought approximately 90–95% of the carrot-growing area at prices ranging from VND 10–12 million per sào. Around 20% of output will be for local market in the form of fresh roots. Meanwhile, the remaining 80% of carrots will be for export markets. These main markets include South Korea, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia and countries in the Middle East.
Carrots from Tue Tinh Commune have received collective trademark certification by the Ministry of Science and Technology. To date, many Vietnamese enterprises have partnered to invest in production and secure stable market outlets for farmers in carrot-growing areas.
According to local residents, nearly 50 years ago, the first carrot crops took root on the alluvial riverbanks of the Thai Binh River. This opened up a new production pathway for farmers in Tue Tinh Commune.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Thuat is the Director of the Duc Chinh Agricultural Service Cooperative. He said that carrots are easy to grow and care for. Notably, farmers can keep carrot roots in the ccold room for a long time. Compared with rice, carrot cultivation generates significantly higher income.

Vietnamese carrots for local markets
To meet the increasingly stringent requirements of the market, many carrot-growing areas follow VietGAP standards. To date, the Duc Chinh Agricultural Service Cooperative has granted four planting area codes for export purposes. This provides an important foundation for expanding export markets, enhancing product value, and increasing income for carrot farmers.
This year, carrot yields will be able to reach around 2 tonnes per sào. This represents an increase of 200–300 kilograms per sào compared with last year. With estimated productivity exceeding 50 tonnes per hectare, total output across the growing area is likely to rise by about 15% in comparison with the previous winter crop.
To date, five Vietnamese vegetable enterprises have signed contracts with the Duc Chinh Agricultural Service Cooperative to purchase Vietnamese carrots for export. In addition, nearly 20 domestic companies have also signed procurement agreements. These agreements help bring the products into wholesale markets, supermarket chains and convenience stores nationwide.
According to Ms. Le Thi Thao, a farmer in Loi Xa Village, carrots are the key crop that provides stable jobs and income. She said this has helped many households in Tue Tinh Commune rise out of poverty and has contributed to a transformation of the local rural landscape.
