Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports are making a strong impression with remarkable growth. In September 2025 alone, export turnover reached nearly $1.3 billion, the highest monthly figure ever recorded. This result raises hopes that the fruit and vegetable sector could reach the $8 billion milestone this year. It is far surpassing the achievement of 2024.

An expert reported that fruit and vegetable exports in the first half of September 2025 reached $650 million. It was a 36% increase compared to the first half of August 2025 and a 41% increase compared to the same period last year. He estimates that the full-month export turnover could reach around $1.3 billion. It is a new monthly record for the industry.

For the first nine months of 2025, Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports reached over $6.11 billion. It went up 8.3% compared to the same period in 2024. If this momentum continues, the sector could close out the year approaching or even exceeding the $8 billion mark.

A standout driver of export growth this year has been the strong rebound of durian, Vietnam’s key fruit export item. After a rocky start to the year, with several shipments returned due to failing China’s quarantine standards. Therefore, exports began surging again from June 2025.

In September 2025 alone, durian export value reached at around $900 million, the highest ever recorded. Over the first nine months, durian brought in about $2.6 billion. China remained the primary market, accounting for nearly 90% of Vietnam’s total durian export revenue.

Over the past nine months, China was the largest importer of Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports. China accounted for nearly 58% of Vietnamese fruit and vegetable export turnover. However, many other markets also recorded significant growth. Exports to the United States rose by 60%, reaching $363 million. Japan increased by 21%, the Netherlands by 39%, and Malaysia by 67%.

This market shift reflects efforts to diversify export destinations and reduce dependence on China. Especially, Chinese market often fluctuates seasonally and due to changing quarantine policies. Other products such as banana, coconut, pineapple, passion fruit, and processed mango also posted stable growth. They contributed to a more diverse product structure than in previous years.

In both 2023 and 2024, Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports remained over 20% annual growth. Also, this  growth continued positive performance in 2025. As a result, the sector shows great potential for expansion.

According to experts, demand for imported fruits and vegetables is expected to surge during New year holidays. If the forth quarter of 2025 maintains a growth rate of about 10% over last year, Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports could reach $8.15 billion for the full year—a record high.

Experts believe that the $10 billion target by 2030 is entirely achievable, or even surpassable, if Vietnam can develop large-scale raw material zones that ensure quality for high-potential products like banana, coconut, pineapple, passion fruit, and mango. The global trend toward tropical fruit consumption presents a huge opportunity for Vietnam.
