According to the Customs Department, the export value of Vietnam’s cashew kernels generated more than USD 5.4 billion in 2025. Shipments reached 112 countries and territories. This further reinforced Vietnam’s position as the world’s leading cashew exporter, accounting for 80% of the global cashew export market.
In the first four months of 2026 alone, Vietnam exported 217,000 tonnes of cashew kernels. As a result, export revenue reached nearly USD 1.5 billion. Compared with the same period in 2025, export volume increased by nearly 9%, while export value rose by approximately 10%. The cashew industry’s export turnover is likely to reach USD 5 billion in 2026.
Vietnam’s cashew kernels
Dong Nai is the capital of Vietnam’s cashew kernels, with a total cashew-growing area of approximately 176,000 hectares. It produces around 300,000 tonnes of raw cashew nuts annually. The city is also recognized as one of the world’s major cashew processing hubs. It is home to 2,793 enterprises and facilities engaged in the purchasing, preliminary processing, and processing of cashew nuts.
Several Vietnamese cashew companies have invested in advanced technologies to develop value-added cashew products. Dong Nai’s total exports reached approximately USD 8.05 billion, while imports totaled about USD 5.9 billion. This performance has helped the province maintain its position as one of Vietnam’s leading export centers. Processed agricultural products remain a key contributor to the city’s export structure, in which cashew nuts play a particularly important role.
Vietnam’s cashew industry is currently facing several challenges, including volatile market prices and a low proportion of value-added processing. In addition, the sector lacks internationally recognized brands, and its trade promotion efforts have yet to reach their full potential.
A scientific workshop on the sustainable development of Dong Nai’s cashew industry for the 2026–2030 period was held on May 23. At the event, experts, businesses, cooperatives, and other stakeholders proposed a range of solutions to foster the sector’s sustainable growth.
Their recommendations focused on improving varieties, refining cultivation practices, and investing in value-added processing. They also emphasized developing a cultural identity for the cashew industry and advancing production and processing technologies.
Ms. Le Thi Anh Tuyet is the Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment. She said that Vietnam’s cashew industry in general, and Dong Nai City’s in particular, still has significant room and potential for growth. Competition is intensifying, and international integration is deepening.

Against this backdrop, she emphasized the need for closer collaboration among the government, businesses, cooperatives, and farmers. She also called for stronger adoption of science and technology and digital transformation. In addition, she stressed the importance of improving product quality and developing a modern, green, and sustainable brand for Vietnam’s cashew kernels.
