Despite fluctuations in the global market and a decline in May 2026, exports of Vietnam’s pepper continued to maintain positive growth. This further affirms their important role in the global spice market.

According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), in May 2026, Vietnam exported 25,180 tons of pepper, earning 166.2 million USD. This figure went down 18.9% in volume and 13.9% in value compared with the previous month, and down 4.8% in volume compared with the same period in 2025.

In the first five months of 2026, Vietnam exported nearly 122,600 tons of pepper, generating 789.2 million USD. This represents an increase of 21.7% in volume and 13.9% in value year-on-year compared with the same period in 2025. These results show that the pepper industry has continued to maintain growth momentum despite ongoing fluctuations in international trade.

Notably, the United States remains the largest market of exports of Vietnam’s pepper. In the first five months, Vietnamese pepper exports to this market reached nearly 30,000 tons. This was up 30.2% year-on-year and accounted for 24.5% of total export volume.

By region, Asia remains the largest consumption market with 56,570 tons, up 24%. In particular, China imported 14,636 tons during the five-month period. This surged 145.4%, making China the second-largest market for Vietnamese pepper. In Europe, exports reached 25,176 tons, up 5.1%. Meanwhile, the Netherlands rose sharply by 51.6%, reflecting improved import demand and transit trade flows.

On the other hand, Vietnam imported 38,086 tons of pepper in the first five months, worth 217.8 million USD. This increased by 69% in volume and 60% in value. The supply of raw materials for processing and re-export is continuing to rise. As a result, Vietnam’s position as a leading global pepper processing and trading hub is being reinforced. This also provides an important foundation for the Vietnamese pepper enterprises to maintain competitiveness and expand their market share in the coming period.
