In a document sent to the Ministry of Industry and Trade regarding the balancing of supply and demand of market rice for the management of rice exports, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment provided its assessment. It stated that in 2026, there are around 7.73 million tons of Vietnamese rices will be available for export.

According to an estimate, the total rice cultivation area nationwide in 2026 is likely to reach at 7.09 million hectares. This represents a decrease of 36,000 hectares. Also, the average yield will be able to reach 61.4 quintals per hectare. This is an increase of 0.3 quintals per hectare in comparison to the same period in 2025. Accordingly, total rice output in 2026 may reach 43.552 million tons, up 12,000 tons from 2025.

Rice production for export is mainly available in the Mekong Delta provinces. In addition, other regions primarily serve domestic consumption. Specifically, total rice cultivation for the year in the Mekong Delta awill reach 3.84 million hectares. Accordingly, output in these areas may reach approximately 24.34 million tons in 2026.

Total domestic rice consumption for the Mekong Delta, Ho Chi Minh City, and use for seeds, animal feed, and other purposes may estimate at around 8.9 million tons. This figure reflects combined demand across these regions and uses.

In addition, rice for processing purposes reaches nearly 1.16 million tons (around 15%). Rice available for export in the first six months of the year may reach 4.014 million tons. The remaining 3.716 million tons are likely to be available in the last six months.

Based on the projected rice volume, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment proposed that the Ministry of Industry and Trade focus on accelerating Vietnam’s rice exports during months with large harvest volumes in 2026. These months include January, March, April, July, August, and September.

At the same time, minimum circulating reserves are maintained as stipulated. In addition, inventory reporting requirements are implemented to support monitoring and early warning by regulatory authorities.
