In the first 9 months of 2023, Vietnamese mango market share in Korea’s total imports increased. In which, Vietnam is the third largest mango supplier to South Korea.
According to the Korea International Trade Association, South Korea’s mango imports in the first 9 months of 2023 reached 23.6 thousand tons, up 14.7% in volume. The value was worth $95 million, up to 8.4% over the same period in 2022. However, the average import mango price was $4,026.7 per ton, down 5.4% over the same period in 2022.
Yellow mango from Vietnam
Thailand and Peru were the two main suppliers of mangoes to Korea in the first 9 months of 2023. These two countries accounted for 80.3% of total imports of fresh mango.
In particular, the leading supplier of fresh mango to Korea is Thailand. In the first 9 months of 2023, Thailand exported 13 thousand tons, worth $38.7 million. The figures were up 30.1% in volume and 17.1% in value over the same period in 2022. Peru ranked the second supplier with 5.9 thousand tons, worth 31.5 million USD, down 16.1% in volume and down 16.3% in value.
Green mango from Vietnam
Vietnam was the third largest mango supplier to Korea. However, the import volume of Vietnamese mango accounted for 7.3% of the total mango import volume of Korea in the first 9 months of 2023. The volume reached to 1.7 thousand tons, up 19.6%. The value was worth $7.2 million, up 18.1% over the same period in 2022.
Vietnamese mango has export potential to demanding markets, contributing to the development of Vietnam’s agricultural products. However, in the Korean market, Vietnamese mango still accounts for a low proportion. Therefore, there is still much room to boost exports of this item to Korea in the coming time.
