Green asparagus, known as the “king of vegetables,” is one of Ninh Thuan’s 12 specialty. Also, it is one of the competitive products that have targeted for export. Additionally, other provinces in the South Central regions are also expanding their cultivation areas for organic asparagus for export.

The province has implemented many training courses, aiming to replicate the organic green asparagus production models. The training courses provided farmers with new intensive cultivation techniques and guidance on plant care and fertilization. They also covered pest and disease control to ensure that the final product meets organic certification standards.

The organic asparagus production process involves the use of organic fertilizers, vermicompost, and well-composted manure. Farmers treat this manure with Trichoderma, beneficial fungi that help eliminate harmful nematodes.

It also includes synchronized methods such as selecting disease-free seeds with clear origins and thorough land preparation and treatment to prevent fungal diseases. They create raised beds (30–50 cm high) to ensure proper drainage during heavy rains.

Additionally, they use farming techniques such as field sanitation and weed removal around the fields to limit alternative pest hosts. Biological methods are also encouraged, such as reducing the use of chemical pesticides. This helps preserve natural predators like spiders, ladybugs, and parasitic wasps.

When pesticide use is necessary, it must follow the “Four Rights” principle: right drug, right dose, right time, and right method. There is also a preference for using plant-based pesticides. In cases of severe plant disease, farmers should temporarily stop harvesting process. Also, they should completely remove and treat infected plants and apply fertilizers to regenerate new plants.

With this strict production process, the resulting asparagus products meet export standards and are safe for consumers. They also protect the health of producers and are environmentally friendly.
