These days, farmers across Sơn La Province’s mango-growing areas are entering the peak harvest season of Vietnamese mango for export. In Chiềng Hặc Commune, harvesting is in full swing as growers work quickly to supply fruit to traders. They are also delivering produce to collection and packing facilities, as well as exporters serving the Chinese market.
Ms. Quàng Thị Uyên is a mango grower from Cang Village in Chiềng Hặc Commune. Her family owns more than one hectare of mango orchards with around 500 trees, which are now in the peak harvest season. The family is working intensively to harvest the fruit for sale to Vietnamese mango export company.
Uyên said that thanks to proper cultivation practices and favorable weather conditions, this year’s crop has produced uniformly large, attractive fruit with higher yields than last season. Total production is likely to reach 7–8 tonnes of Vietnamese mango for export. She added that local collection centers and traders are currently purchasing mangoes at around VND 6,000 per kilogram for export, providing a stable outlet for growers.

Although harvesting has been challenging under the hot weather, her family is making every effort to complete the harvest. They hope mango prices will remain stable or rise further, bringing greater satisfaction and income to local farmers.
Since mid-May 2026, the packing facility operated by Hà Thị Chình in Văng Lùng Village, Chiềng Hặc Commune, has been purchasing and packing Vietnamese mango for export on behalf of local farmers. It has also been exporting 10 to 20 tonnes of mangoes to the Chinese market each day.
Chình explained that they just select large and well-shaped mangoes meeting export standards. The fruit must weigh at least 600 grams. Also, it should be free from pest damage, blemishes, deformities, or other defects. After procurement, they clean, grade, and pack mangoes in accordance with strict specifications and quality standards. Then the transport on the same day to preserve their freshness for export to the Chinese market.
Chình added that the facility will continue purchasing Vietnamese mangoes without a quantity limit. Farmers who have fruit meeting export quality standards can sell their produce to the facility. The facility will continue collection until the end of the harvest season.

Hoàng Thị Thương is a resident of Văng Lùng Village, Chiềng Hặc Commune. She said that her family’s main source of income comes from upland farming, which remains unstable. Therefore, every mango harvest season, she works at Chình’s collection facility. Her main tasks include sorting, wrapping, and packing mangoes, which are suitable for her health conditions. With earnings of more than VND 1 million per day, the job provides her family with additional income to cover daily living expenses.
Chiềng Hặc Commune currently has more than 1,350 hectares of mango orchards, mainly cultivating the Taiwanese GL4 mango variety, with an estimated output of around 10,000 tonnes. To achieve high yields and quality, the commune has organized training and provided technical guidance on mango bagging techniques. These efforts help farmers reduce pest damage, improve fruit quality and appearance, and meet market requirements, particularly export standards.
Cao Xuân Dũng is the Chairman of the Chiềng Hặc Commune People’s Committee. He said that fruit bagging is an important solution to improve the value and quality of mangoes. It also contributes to the development of the local agricultural brand. Therefore, the commune has launched and provided guidance on mango bagging techniques. The initiative involves relevant sectors, specialized agencies, village heads, cooperatives, purchasing and export businesses, as well as a large number of local mango growers.
In addition, before the mango harvest season begins, the commune also organizes meetings with traders, promotes information about the growing areas, and communicates details about local raw material zones. Cooperatives and farmers in the area have signed consumption linkage agreements with Vietnamese export businesses. This helps expand stable market outlets of Vietnamese mango for export and creates favorable conditions for farmers to sell their products.

They also promote the development of stable and sustainable mango-growing areas with higher value and increased incomes.
