Not only bringing Vietnam-origin seedless limes to multiple international markets, Chanh Viet company has also expanded into deep processing. This strategy aims to enhance its value chain and win over global customers.
Mr. Nguyễn Văn Hiển is the Director of Chanh Viet Investment and Trading Joint Stock Company. He stated that although the export of Vietnam-origin seedless limes has been successful, international markets only accept Grade A. These account for about 40% of total output. The remaining more than 60%, we have to sell domestically at lower prices. As a result, this leads to reduced overall value for the company.
Mr. Hiển noted that Thai traders often source fresh fruits from Vietnam, including limes, at relatively low prices. After minimal processing, they export these products to Malaysia and Singapore at higher prices. Subsequently, some deeply processed lime-based products in these countries—originally made from Vietnamese raw materials—are even re-imported into Vietnam at significantly higher prices.
“So why don’t we invest in deep processing to increase value?” he said.

He also pointed out that beyond lime juice, other parts of Vietnam-origin seedless limes hold significant value. The peel can be distilled into essential oil for pharmaceutical use. Meanwhile, the pulp can be processed to extract juice and further concentrated into lime powder. This powder is an input for products such as salted lime seasoning and beverages.
From this perspective, Mr. Hiển has nurtured the idea of developing Vietnam’s deeply processed lime products for export. The goal is to enhance overall value. “As a business, sustainable development requires creating useful products. To achieve this, only deep processing can bring higher value to limes,” he said. This helps farmers improve their livelihoods from seedless limes they grow and care for themselves.
Mr. Hiển shared that he has sought collaboration with scientists to research lime-based products. Lime juice was the first product that the company developed. After passing stringent testing from Japanese partners, the product was eventually able to export. Not stopping there, Chanh Viet has developed and launched a wide range of products for both domestic consumption and export.
These include aloe vera and honey lime juice, salt and pepper lime seasoning, chili lime salt, dried lime peel, dried lime leaves, and dried lime slices. Among these, the most notable product is lime seasoning powder, which has received good feedbacks from consumers both in Vietnam and abroad.

Not only focusing on international markets, Chanh Viet Company is also actively expanding its presence in the domestic market. “Through my research, I found that lime-based products play an important role in improving human health, especially in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic,” Mr. Hiển said. Therefore, the company has developed products such as lime juice combined with cordyceps and soursop extract to meet market demand.
Vietnamese people create high-quality, health-beneficial products that well receive positive feedbacks from international customers. So why shouldn’t they also bring these products to domestic consumers? During this period, the company has been actively expanding partnerships with cooperatives and local farmers to ensure sufficient raw material supply for processing. It is purchasing hundreds of tons of limes annually from cooperatives and households in the region.
Although the Covid-19 pandemic has affected some of its operations, early investment in deep processing and product diversification has helped the company maintain an upward trend in orders. In addition to traditional markets such as the Middle East and Europe, demand from more demanding markets like Japan and the United States has also continued to grow steadily. This includes increasing demand for raw materials for production.
As a result, the company continues to support local farmers in addressing output challenges and ensuring more effective agricultural product consumption.
According to the People’s Committee of Bến Lức District, in recent years, many Vietnamese agribusinesses have developed and expanded the lime value chain for export. These companies play a key role in building and forming efficient, sustainable supply and consumption linkages.
The collaboration is mainly structured around producers (enterprises, production facilities, cooperatives, and large-scale farmers), scientists, processing and food supply companies, and retail businesses. Within this ecosystem, Chanh Viet Company is currently the leading enterprise in the locality.
