According to preliminary statistics from the Vietnam Pepper and Spices Association (VPSA), in November 2025, the country exported 1,078 tons of Vietnamese star anise flower, earning $5.1 million. Compared to October, export volume increased by 52.95% and export value rose by 49.1%. However, compared with the same period in November 2024, exports decreased by 6%.

As of the end of November 2025, Vietnam had exported 12,976 tons of star anise. Accordingly, the total export value reached $53 million. Compared to the first 11 months of 2024, export volume increased by 5.5%, but export value decreased by 8%. Among exporters, Prosi Thăng Long continued to hold the position as the leading export company of Vietnam’s star anise.

On the international market, wholesale prices for dried star anise range from $5–8 per kilogram. In Vietnam, common retail prices range from VND 140,000 to 350,000 per kilogram, depending on the variety.

Regarding markets, Vietnamese star anise flower is available to more than 70 countries. India is the largest destination, importing 9,195 tons, accounting for 71% of total exports and rising 13.3% year on year. The United States ranks second with 886 tons, representing 6.8% of the market share. It also recorded an impressive 79% growth compared to last year.

According to the World Spice Association, Vietnam is currently the second-largest producer of star anise in the world. More specifically, the annual output of Vietnamese star anise reached about 22,000 tons, just after China.

Thanks to its distinctive aroma and high value in culinary, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic applications, Vietnamese star anise flower is increasingly favorable in international markets. Its popularity continues to grow as demand rises globally.

It is one of the high-value agricultural products, contributing positively to the export turnover of the spice sector. It also enhances the global reputation of Vietnamese agricultural products.

In Vietnam, star anise can only grow well and yield high output in areas with elevations of 300–700 meters above sea level and a temperate, cool, and humid climate. Such conditions are found in provinces like Lạng Sơn, Cao Bằng, Thái Nguyên, and Quảng Ninh.

However, due to the favorable local climate and soil conditions, Lạng Sơn star anise is still considered the highest-quality product, with a high essential oil content. Annual harvests from Lạng Sơn account for 87.5% of the country’s total star anise production.
