Over the years, Tam Lung Agricultural Service Cooperative in Đồng Đăng Commune has remained committed to sustainable development. As part of this commitment, it has focused on applying advanced farming techniques to Vietgap sugarcane cultivation. As a result, it has gradually improved both the quality and value of its Vietnamese sugarcane products.
Tam Lung Agricultural Service Cooperative in Đồng Đăng Commune was established in May 2021 with nine members. It primarily operates in Vietnamese agricultural production.
Vietgap sugarcane cultivation has long been a traditional crop in Đồng Đăng Commune. It is mainly cultivated in the villages of Tam Lung, Khuổi Mươi, and Nhất Tâm. Local farmers primarily grow white sugarcane because this variety is more resistant to pests and diseases than other types.
Phùng Dỉnh Hà is the Director of Tam Lung Agricultural Service Cooperative. Shortly after its establishment, the cooperative received guidance and support from the commune authorities and technical agencies. This support enabled it to apply advanced farming techniques and develop 5 hectares of Vietgap-compliant sugarcane cultivation. Cooperative members and local sugarcane growers attended training courses on Vietgap cultivation and crop management practices.

They also received more than two tonnes of organic fertilizer. In addition, the cooperative regularly organizes meetings where members exchange experience on crop care and pest management. The cooperative and local farmers now maintain 10 hectares of Vietgap sugarcane cultivation.
Lăng Văn Hòa, a cooperative member, said his family has grown Vietnamese sugarcane for many years. Each year, they cultivate between two and three sào of sugarcane. In the past, traditional farming methods produced stalks that were tough, stunted, and more susceptible to pests. However, applying modern cultivation techniques has resulted in softer and sweeter sugarcane.
The family has already sold about one-third of this year’s harvest at VND 20,000 per stalk. Vietgap sugarcane cultivation now generates an annual income of more than VND 50 million. This delivers economic returns five times higher than those previously earned from rice farming.
In addition to improving quality, the cooperative has invested in product branding and promotion. As a result, Tam Lung sugarcane has become increasingly well known among consumers both within and outside the province over the past few years.
Vũ Thu Thảo from Quảng Ninh Province said that whenever her family returns to their hometown, especially before the Lunar New Year, they buy sugarcane from Đồng Đăng Commune. They purchase it both to enjoy themselves and to give as gifts. She said the sugarcane is sweet and tender. In recent years, farmers have also begun peeling, cutting, and packaging the sugarcane into small vacuum-sealed bags. This has made the product cleaner and more convenient for consumers.

On average, farmers can plant around 400 sugarcane shoots per sào of farmland. Vietgap sugarcane cultivation is sweeter, more tender, and less affected by pests and diseases. Its market value is also 10–15% higher than in previous years. Farmers can earn around VND 40 million per sào from sugarcane production.
Besides expanding Vietgap sugarcane cultivation, the cooperative also processes pickled bamboo shoots with chili, a product that has received a three-star OCOP certification. Looking ahead, the cooperative plans to encourage both its members and local farmers to continue applying Vietgap cultivation techniques. It also aims to diversify its product range by developing bottled sugarcane juice and vacuum-packed peeled sugarcane. This will further increase product value.
