Đồng Nai Province is Vietnam’s leading banana-producing region for export. It has nearly 21,000 hectares under cultivation and an annual output of more than 900,000 tonnes. Around 80% of its total production is available for markets worldwide, including demanding destinations such as South Korea and Japan. In 2026, Đồng Nai aims to further expand Vietnam’s banana exports. This will help strengthen the global position of Vietnamese bananas in particular and the country’s fresh fruit industry as a whole.
Mr. Lê Viết Bình is the Deputy Chief of the Southern Office of Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Environment. From his view, Vietnamese fruit and vegetable exports reached nearly USD 8.6 billion in 2025, up almost 20% from the previous year. In the first three months of 2026, exports of agricultural, forestry, and fishery products reached nearly USD 16.7 billion.
Fruit and vegetable exports alone rose by more than 32%. Against this backdrop, bananas have emerged as one of the most promising export commodities. They have the potential to generate USD 1 billion in export revenue in the future if production continues to improve.
At the 2026 Đồng Nai Banana Export and Agricultural Export Promotion Ceremony, 11 containers carrying 220 tonnes of Cavendish bananas were shipped by local enterprises to markets including Japan, South Korea, and China. The event underscored the strong momentum of banana exports in the province as the industry enters 2026 with growing optimism.

Vietnam’s banana exports
Liêu A Kiều is the Director of a Vietnamese banana export enterprise in Ho Chi Minh City. She said that global uncertainties continued to affect Vietnam’s banana exports. Despite these challenges, the company’s fresh banana exports increased by more than 20% in the first half of 2026 compared with the same period in 2025.
Export prices were also around 30% higher than the average recorded during the same period last year. Although Vietnam’s banana exports to the Middle East have been temporarily suspended due to armed conflict in the region. However, the Middle Eastern market accounts for less than 10% of the company’s total export volume. As a result, the overall impact has remained limited.
In 2026, the company will continue focusing on its major market in China while expanding into new destinations such as Malaysia and Singapore. It expects fresh banana exports to maintain strong growth throughout the year. To meet rising international demand, the company also plans to expand by several hundred hectares of export-certified banana plantations. These plantations will have officially approved growing area codes across Đồng Nai Province.
The 2026 Đồng Nai Banana Export and Agricultural Export Promotion Ceremony marked an important milestone in showcasing the province’s high-quality signature fruits. It also served as a platform connecting policymakers, scientists, businesses, and farmers to exchange knowledge, strengthen cooperation, and expand export markets. Going forward, the agricultural sector will continue planning concentrated production areas while promoting brand development and diversifying export destinations.
Nguyễn Hữu Tỷ is the Director of another Vietnamese banana export company in Ho Chi Minh City. He said the company’s export price for containerized bananas currently ranges from VND 19,000 to VND 20,000 per kilogram. Although global market fluctuations have significantly increased input costs and created additional challenges for exporters, the company remains committed to ensuring a stable supply for its signed contracts.

Customers have also shown support by sharing the burden of rising costs. The company still aims to increase banana exports by 15–20% compared with last year. This target is driven by growing international recognition of both the quality and volume of Vietnamese bananas.
According to Lê Viết Bình, Đồng Nai is one of Vietnam’s leading provinces in developing commercial agriculture, with bananas already exported to many major international markets. The establishment of growing area codes, certified packing facilities, and stringent quality control systems has strengthened the province’s competitiveness. It has also enabled the province to progressively meet international standards.
The province offers highly favorable conditions for banana production thanks to its fertile soils and supportive policies promoting crop conversion with improved varieties. However, Panama disease continues to pose a serious threat to export-oriented banana plantations.
He recommended that Đồng Nai introduce new disease-resistant varieties to ensure the sustainable development of its specialized growing areas. He noted that export bananas must consistently meet requirements for yield, quality, and appearance. To achieve these standards, farmers also need to maintain complete production records and ensure full traceability under safe production practices.
Lê Thị Ánh Tuyết is the Deputy Director of the Đồng Nai Department of Agriculture and Environment. She said that the sustainable development of Vietnam’s banana exports requires reorganizing production through integrated value chains. These value chains should cover every stage, from seedling production and standardized cultivation practices to harvesting, packing, and export.

Banana leaves from Vietnam
In the coming years, the provincial agricultural sector will continue implementing measures to strengthen production-to-export linkages. Đồng Nai has introduced various policies to support value chain development. These include the adoption of electronic production records and digital traceability systems.
The province has already established strong positions in traditional export markets. In addition, several Vietnamese banana enterprises have successfully expanded into more demanding destinations such as South Korea and Japan. The provincial government will continue supporting businesses in their efforts to grow and diversify export markets.
