Exports of Vietnamese wood products continued to show positive signals in the early months of 2026. Export turnover surpassed 6 billion USD, despite numerous challenges from the current international market.

According to data from the Vietnam Customs, Vietnam’s exports of timber and wood products reached 660 million USD in the first 15 days of May 2026. They increased by 13.3% compared with the same period in 2025. Of this, exports of wood products reached 401.4 million USD, down 4% year-on-year.

Cumulatively, from the beginning of 2026 to May 15, exports of timber and wood products totaled 6.2 billion USD, up 4.3% compared with the same period last year. In particular, exports of wood products reached 4 billion USD, down 2.6% year-on-year.

These figures show that Vietnam’s wood companies have maintained growth momentum despite facing increasingly stringent trade barriers in key export markets and high logistics costs.

In the export structure, wooden furniture remains the key segment of exports of Vietnamese wood products, generating 3.16 billion USD. However, it declined by 3.4% compared with the same period in 2025. Its share also fell from 60.6% to 56.7% of the industry’s total export turnover.

Notably, wooden-frame chairs were the only furniture product group to record growth, reaching 1.31 billion USD. This was up 8.7% year-on-year and accounted for 23.5% of total export turnover. In contrast, many deeply processed furniture categories such as living room, dining room, bedroom, kitchen, and office furniture all declined. Office furniture exports alone reached only 89.3 million USD, down sharply by 26.4%.

Contrary to the trend in finished furniture, raw and intermediate wood products recorded positive growth. Wood chips exports reached 972.5 million USD, up 16.2%. Also, wood, plywood, and flooring reached 826.3 million USD, up 19.5%. Wood pellets reached 386.5 million USD, up 2.8%. Meanwhile, wooden doors increased slightly by 0.7%, while handicraft wood products fell by 23.9%.

Experts note that current export growth is mainly driven by raw wood products and wooden-frame chairs. To enhance value addition, businesses need to diversify export markets. They should also effectively leverage signed FTAs and promote green transformation in production. This is necessary to meet increasingly strict regulations on legal wood sourcing and carbon emission reduction from importing countries.
