Beyond Korea, Vietnam has successfully exported two shipments of fresh sugarcane to the U.S. This success was our efforts after six months of negotiations and technical compliance.
Mr. Hung, Head of the Vietnam Trade Office in the United States, stated: “Sugarcane has significant export potential and is especially suitable to the soil conditions in Hoa Binh Province. As a result, Hoa Binh sugarcane produces refreshing and nutritious beverages. Notably, fresh sugarcane (skin removed) is not classified under products requiring pest risk assessment. Therefore, it is exported to the U.S. market at any time. With a population of more than 330 million, the U.S. is ready to embrace nutritious beverages like this.”

Purple sugarcane from Vietnam
The journey began in 2019 with a trial shipment of 120 kg of purple sugarcane to Japan. Over the years, exports have grown significantly, with markets expanding to Korea, Germany, the Netherlands, and the U.S. Enterprises are strengthening ties with local farming areas to establish large-scale raw material zones meeting Global GAP standards.
With increasing international demand, Hoa Binh province is standardizing sugarcane farming. The province currently cultivates about 7,000 hectares of fresh sugarcane, with 300–500 tons of output this year.
To improve quality, farmers have adopted Vietgap methods for traceability. For instance, Tan Lac district cultivates 50 hectares of sugarcane, nearly half of which follows Vietgap standards. This involves using organic fertilizers and pesticides under close supervision.

By 2025, Hoa Binh aims to replace traditional purple sugarcane varieties. This will create large-scale, uniform material zones to improve productivity and quality, ensure a consistent supply for global markets.
Alongside standardizing raw material zones, the province emphasizes the application of processing technology to boost sugarcane value. This approach will help penetrate more markets and maximize export potential.
