The 2025–2026 winter crop season recorded major successes for farmers in Hai Phong. Specifically, Hai Phong carrots continued to affirm their position as a key agricultural product. Thanks to clean production processes combined with proactive consumption linkages, the product not only achieved high yields. It also conquered many demanding markets, bringing sustainable economic value to the locality.
Hai Phong’s carrot cultivation area in the 2025 winter crop season reached around 1,030 hectares. It is mainly available in long-established farming communes such as Tue Tinh, Thai Tan, and An Phu. Among them, Tue Tinh Commune is the “carrot capital” with 510 hectares. This is thanks to suitable soil conditions and farmers’ long-standing cultivation experience. From the beginning of the season, local authorities identified Hai Phong carrots as a key crop. They focused on production planning and completing irrigation systems for synchronized water supply.
Mr. Ngo Thanh Tung is the Vice Chairman of Tue Tinh Commune People’s Committee. He said that the locality directed production activities and upgraded canal systems. It also completed irrigation infrastructure from the outset of the season. This thorough preparation in technical infrastructure created favorable conditions for farmers. As a result, they were able to confidently sow seeds and care for crops according to the seasonal schedule. This is a fundamental factor ensuring yield and quality from the early stages of production.

This year, favorable weather conditions helped Vietnamese carrot grow well. They produced visually attractive and uniform-quality roots. Yields in key production areas are likely to reach 45–50 tons per hectare, higher than the average of previous years. After deducting production costs, farmers can earn a net profit of 170–190 million VND per hectare. This strong economic efficiency has affirmed the irreplaceable role of Hai Phong carrots in the winter crop structure.
Mr. Nguyen Van Bac is the Party Secretary and Head of the Fatherland Front Committee of Dich Trang village. He shared that members of the cooperative strictly follow agricultural sector guidelines. This ensures Hai Phong carrots meet the stringent standards of export markets. The implementation of VietGAP production standards has helped farmers better control quality and food safety. Since the beginning of the season, product consumption has been smooth, with average selling prices ranging from 10 to 12 million VND per sao. This has brought great satisfaction to local farmers.
Currently, about 80% of the city’s carrot output is allocated for export. Among the export markets, South Korea accounts for the largest share at around 40%. Tue Tinh carrots have also recognized as a 4-star OCOP product. This creates an important foundation for developing a distinctive agricultural brand. Hai Phong has transitioned from traditional farming to modern commodity production. This has helped enhance the competitiveness of its agricultural products in the international market.
Ms. Luong Thi Kiem is the Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Hai Phong. She affirmed that Hai Phong carrots are a clear example of the city’s commodity-oriented agricultural development strategy. The formation of concentrated production zones, together with the participation of cooperatives and enterprises in distribution, has contributed to increasing product value. This not only ensures stable incomes for farmers but also strengthens the position of Hai Phong agricultural products on the national agricultural export map.

Although Hai Phong carrots achieved positive results in terms of yield, from late February 2026 the export activities have affected by military tensions in the Middle East. In addition, traditional markets such as Japan and South Korea have also tightened regulations on food safety and traceability. Faced with these challenges, Vietnamese carrot enterprises have quickly adjusted their market strategies in a flexible manner.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Doan is General Director of a Vietnamese carrot company in the city. He said that when the Middle Eastern market was disrupted, the company promptly shifted to other markets. Thanks to high product quality, customers in Japan and Malaysia continue to highly value Hai Phong carrots. The company is actively seeking additional cold storage facilities to preserve products. It is also continuing negotiations with partners to stabilize orders at the best possible prices for farmers.
At cooperatives, efforts to strengthen consumption linkages have also been intensified to reduce pressure when major markets face transportation difficulties. Hoang Nam Phat Cooperative has purchased and processed about 30,000 tons of Vietnam’s carrots since the beginning of the season. The purchasing prices are 40% higher than last year. This is a major effort to ensure market outlets for farmers amid volatile international shipping costs. Proactively seeking new distribution channels has become a key solution to maintaining the supply chain.
Mr. Ho Viet Hoang is the Director of Hoang Nam Phat Agricultural Service Cooperative. He shared that due to difficulties in exporting agricultural products to South Korea and the Middle East, the enterprise has shifted to boosting domestic consumption while expanding exports to Southeast Asia. Markets such as Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand are becoming potential destinations for Vietnamese fresh carrots. So far, about 90% of the cooperative’s purchased output has been successfully sold thanks to this timely and flexible strategy.

In addition to business efforts, the city’s agricultural sector has also strengthened quality control measures to protect brand reputation. The Hai Phong Sub-Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection regularly takes samples for inspection in production areas and packing facilities. Strict monitoring of pesticide use during the final stages of the crop is carried out to ensure products meet safety standards when reaching consumers.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Thuat is the Director of Duc Chinh Agricultural Service Cooperative. He said that up to now, farmers have harvested only about 5% of the area. However, many Vietnamese fresh enterprises have already signed off-take contracts. The formation of linkages between farmers and businesses not only ensures stable market outlets. It also motivates farmers to invest in long-term production. The trust of international partners is the result of a well-structured cultivation process over time.
For sustainable development, Hai Phong is aiming to enhance post-harvest processing and deep preservation capacity to increase value-added for agricultural products. Investment in modern processing plants and cold storage systems will help reduce dependence on short-term fluctuations in export markets. This is an inevitable direction to strengthen the international journey of Hai Phong carrots. Moreover, it contributes to the development of a more professional and efficient agricultural sector in the city.
