Vietnamese exported cassia lost momentum in the first half of 2026 as demand weakened across several Asian markets. However, robust growth in the United States and the Americas continued to create opportunities for market diversification. It also strengthened the industry’s long-term outlook.
According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), Vietnamese cassia exports reached 12,611 tonnes in June 2026. The export revenue of Vietnamese exported cassia reached USD 31.9 million. Export volume fell by 9.5% and export value declined by 9.4% compared with May 2026, while export volume was down 11.3% year on year.
The slowdown reflected weaker demand in several traditional markets, particularly across Asia, following robust growth in the first quarter of 2026. However, these short-term fluctuations have not undermined the industry’s fundamentals. Strong demand from emerging markets continues to create opportunities for export expansion.

Vietnamese exported cassia
Asia remained the largest destination for Vietnamese exported cassia in June 2026, importing 9,010 tonnes. This accounted for 71.4% of the country’s total cassia exports during the month. However, shipments to the region fell by 13% from the previous month and by 19.8% from a year earlier. India alone imported 6,243 tonnes, down 6.6% month on month and 19.2% year on year.
In contrast, exports to the United States reached 1,449 tonnes, up 2.3% from May and 36.7% from June 2025. Meanwhile, exports to Europe rose to 1,113 tonnes, an increase of 49.4% from the previous month. However, they remained 7.5% lower than a year earlier. These figures suggest that export orders are becoming more geographically diversified.
In the first six months of 2026, Vietnam’s cassia exports exported 61,297 tonnes, worth USD 156.2 million. This was down 3.4% in volume and 3.2% in value in comparison to the same period in 2025. Asia imported 42,008 tonnes, accounting for 68.5% of total exports, but the volume declined by 11.2% year on year.
India remained the largest market with 24,432 tonnes, followed by Bangladesh with 4,623 tonnes and the United Arab Emirates with 2,419 tonnes. By contrast, exports to the Americas rose 31.3% from the same period last year, with shipments to the United States increasing 27.7% to 8,341 tonnes. Exports to Africa also grew by 23.8% year on year.

Vietnamese cassia powder
On the import side, Vietnam imported 3,087 tonnes of cinnamon worth USD 6.8 million during the first half of 2026. This was up 35.5% in volume and 28.9% in value in comparison to the same period last year.
Indonesia remained the largest supplier with 1,923 tonnes, followed by China with 789 tonnes. Import volumes eased during the second quarter of 2026. However, cumulative imports remained significantly higher due to strong purchases earlier in the year.
Overall, Vietnam’s cassia trade performance in the first half of 2026 indicates that the industry is gradually reducing its dependence on a handful of traditional markets. At the same time, it is strengthening a more diversified and sustainable export growth strategy.
