Breakthrough: Vietnamese cinnamon essential oil enters U.S. market for the first time

The first shipment of cinnamon essential oil, valued at over USD 500,000, represents an important milestone in the efforts of enterprises in Ba Che District to expand their presence in international markets. It not only reflects the growing capacity of local agro-processing industries but also demonstrates the increasing integration of Vietnamese agricultural products into the global supply chain.

On March 23, Ba Che Cinnamon Co., Ltd. successfully exported 160 tons of cinnamon essential oil to the United States. This achievement is considered a significant breakthrough. It marks the company’s first official shipment to the U.S. market since its cinnamon processing plant began operations in November 2025. Entering such a demanding market is not only a commercial success but also a strong signal. It shows that the company’s production standards and product quality are meeting increasingly strict international requirements.

According to a representative of the company, the total value of this shipment exceeds USD 500,000. Before being exported, all products underwent a rigorous process of testing, sampling, and evaluation against technical standards conducted by an independent consulting unit. These quality control procedures were carried out carefully to ensure that the products fully comply with international export requirements. In addition, the company completed all necessary legal procedures in accordance with regulations. This ensured that the shipment was officially licensed and fully legitimate. This careful preparation highlights the enterprise’s commitment to transparency, quality assurance, and long-term market development.

The cinnamon processing facility of Ba Che Cinnamon Co., Ltd. is built on an area of approximately 2 hectares, with a total investment of around VND 40 billion in the first phase. The plant has been designed with a modern production system and a relatively high processing capacity. Each year, it is capable of producing over 100 tons of cinnamon essential oil, about 240 tons of cinnamon-based bio-products, and approximately 3,000 tons of dried cinnamon bark. This large-scale capacity demonstrates the company’s strategic vision of developing cinnamon not only as a raw agricultural product but also as a high-value processed commodity.

In terms of product structure, the company has developed a diversified portfolio to meet various market demands. Besides cinnamon essential oil, the company also produces a range of derivatives. These include cinnamic aldehyde, benzaldehyde, coumarin, and cinnamyl acetate. These compounds are widely used in the food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic industries. This shows the high commercial potential of cinnamon-based products. In addition, the company also offers a variety of bark-based products. These include stick cinnamon, tube cinnamon, rolled cinnamon, and split cinnamon, which are commonly used in both domestic consumption and export markets. This diversification strategy helps the company reduce risks while increasing competitiveness across different market segments.

Currently, the company focuses primarily on essential oil production, processing around 5,000 tons of raw cinnamon branches and leaves annually. From this input, it produces approximately 100 tons of finished cinnamon essential oil each year. This production process not only adds value to raw materials but also helps optimize the use of local agricultural resources. It also reflects the company’s efforts to build a sustainable production model based on regional advantages.

Looking ahead, from late 2026 onwards, the enterprise plans to expand into deeper processing of cinnamon bark products. This is intended to further increase value addition. This strategic direction aims to move beyond basic processing toward higher-value product lines. These products can generate greater economic benefits. By investing in advanced processing technologies, the company expects to enhance product quality, diversify its offerings, and strengthen its position in the international market.

In its long-term development strategy, Ba Che Cinnamon Co., Ltd. also aims to establish a cinnamon raw material zone of approximately 8,000 hectares. The development orientation emphasizes organic cultivation practices, the issuance of plantation area codes, and forest certification. These measures are designed to ensure transparency and traceability throughout the supply chain. This is increasingly important in global trade. By meeting strict traceability and sustainability standards, the company seeks to improve competitiveness and gain access to high-demand markets such as the European Union and the United States.

Overall, this first export shipment is not only a commercial achievement but also a foundation for the company’s future growth strategy. It reflects a broader trend of upgrading Vietnam’s agricultural processing industry toward higher value, better quality control, and more sustainable development.
