In the first 4 months of 2017, Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable export is still growing well. According to the General Department of Customs, fruit and vegetable export in the first 4 months is nearly $ 1 billion, up 33.7% over the same period in 2016.

Currently, Vietnam exports vegetables and fruits to 23 major markets. China has been the largest market for fruit and vegetable export over the past several years. Japan, Korea, the United States… are potential markets with high demand and tend to import more Vietnamese goods. Fresh carrots, garlic, fresh shallots and onions from Vietnam are interested by international customers.

Export of vegetables and fruits to China accounted for 74% of total vegetables and fruits export turnover. Specifically, it reached $ 759.1 million, up 40% over the first four months of 2016.

Beside Chinese market, Vietnam’s vegetables and fruits are also exported to the US. The volume reached $ 34.6 million, up 15.6%, and accounted for 3.4% of total export turnover. Fruit and vegetable export to Japan reached 31.5 million, accounted for 3.1%, and up 51.5%. Fruit and vegetable export to Korea reached $ 30.7 million, up 12.5%, and accounted for 3%.

In general, fruit and vegetable export from Vietnam to most markets still showed good growth. Specifically, there were several markets that grew more than 50% in turnover. Fruit and vegetable export to United Arab Emirates increased over 110%, reached $ 12.4 million. Export to Hong Kong increased over 92.7%, reached $ 6 million. Export to Laos increased by 79.5%, reached $ 2.5 million. Fruit and vegetable export to Japan increased more than 51.5%, reached $ 31.5 million.

However, vegetables and fruits from Vietnam export to Cambodia, Kuwait and the UK market dropped sharply. Namely, they respectively fell by 83.7%, 53.5% and 43.3% in turnover over the same period.

In domestic market, the coconut price in Ben Tre has increased to 140,000 – 160,000 VND / dozen (12 fruits). This has been the highest price ever. Though of high price, many growers did not have coconuts for sale due to the bad effects of weather.

In April 2017, rambutan price continuously increases. Currently, Java rambutan price for export is at VND 55,000 – 60,000 / kg, up VND 20,000 / kg. Sweet rambutan and Thailand rambutan prices are at VND 70,000 – 80,000 / kg, up VND10,000 / kg.

Pineapple price in the specialized farming area in Tien Giang province has increased again after the continuous devaluation. Currently, pineapple is collected by traders at price about 4,500 VND / kg, depending on quality. This price has increased more than the lowest price of nearly 2,000 VND / kg. At this price, farmers earn about 500 VND / kg. The price increase of pineapple helps farmers’ peace of mind to produce and apply advanced techniques to achieve high economic efficiency.

In April 2017, the price of vegetables and fruits in Lam Dong tended to decrease, because the supply was relatively abundant with the advantage condition of the weather. Reduced price items included white cabbage, purple cabbage, onion, potato… with a reduction of 1,000 – 2,000 VND / kg compared to the previous month. The rest of most items remained stable.
