According to the Hải Phòng city, more than 1,300 hectares of carrots are cultivated each winter crop. Most of the production is available in communes and wards in the western part of the city. Among them, Tuệ Tĩnh Commune is the capital of Vietnamese carrots for export, with approximately 510 hectares under cultivation. Carrots are also available in other localities, including Thái Tân, An Phú, and Chí Linh.
In recent years, Hải Phòng farmers have gone beyond cultivating carrots on local farmland. They leased fertile riverside land in neighboring provinces such as Hưng Yên and Bắc Ninh. Benefiting from nutrient-rich alluvial soil and years of farming experience, Vietnamese carrots grown in these areas consistently achieve high yields. They also produce attractive roots of uniform quality that meet the market standards.
Each year, Hải Phòng farmers harvest between 70,000 and 80,000 metric tons of carrots. This generates profits worth hundreds of billions of Vietnamese đồng. This has become an important source of income, helping improve rural livelihoods. It also supports the development of the local agricultural economy.
Vietnamese carrots for exports
Notably, Vietnamese carrots for export in Hải Phòng has become increasingly modern and well organized. Most cultivation areas have been consolidated into concentrated production zones that follow VietGAP standards. The use of high-quality seed varieties, together with mechanization in land preparation, crop management, and harvesting, has improved productivity. It has also ensured product quality and food safety.
Standardized production has also created favorable conditions for establishing stable marketing and supply chains. Currently, more than 70% of Hải Phòng’s carrot output is purchased by Vietnamese export businesses. It is present at markets such as Japan, South Korea, Thailand, and Malaysia. The remaining production is distributed domestically through wholesale markets, supermarkets, and retail stores.
Mr. Nguyễn Đức Thuật is the Director of the Đức Chính Agricultural Services Cooperative in Tuệ Tĩnh Commune. He stated that farmers have harvested only about 5% of the total cultivation area so far this season. Since the beginning of the harvest, 13 international companies have signed contracts to purchase Vietnamese carrots for export. In addition, 16 domestic companies have reached agreements to procure carrots for distribution through retail systems across Vietnam.
This year, local carrot yields have reached approximately 2 metric tons per sào. This is an increase of 200–300 kilograms per sào in comparison to the previous season. The establishment of value chain linkages among farmers, cooperatives, and businesses has not only secured stable market outlets. It has also encouraged growers to make long-term investments in improving production.
Harvesting Vietnamese carrots for export
Nguyễn Văn Bấc is a carrot farmer in Tuệ Tĩnh Commune. He said that in the past, local growers mainly sold their produce to traders, leaving prices unstable and highly dependent on market fluctuations. However, since the cooperative began connecting farmers with companies through contract purchasing agreements, growers have gained greater confidence in investing in production and improving the quality of their carrots.
Alongside expanding production, Hải Phòng’s carrot-growing areas are placing increasing emphasis on building a strong agricultural brand. Tuệ Tĩnh Commune has emerged as the driving force behind both the development of the city’s carrot-growing region and the promotion of Vietnam’s carrots.
With a long tradition of carrot cultivation, local farmers have accumulated extensive expertise in growing and caring for the crop. They carry out every stage—from selecting seed varieties and preparing the soil to crop management and harvesting—according to strict production standards. This helps ensure consistent quality and an attractive appearance of Vietnamese carrot exports.
Local authorities and agricultural cooperatives have also worked closely with the city’s agricultural agencies to strengthen the brand of Vietnamese carrots for export. A major milestone came when Tuệ Tĩnh carrots have received a 4-star OCOP product. This achievement reflects the locality’s commitment to improving product quality. It also lays the foundation for the development of a distinctive regional agricultural brand.

Lương Thị Kiểm is the Deputy Director of the Hải Phòng Department of Agriculture and Environment. She stated that Vietnamese carrots for export are not only a high-value winter crop but also a successful example of the city’s commercial agricultural development strategy. The establishment of concentrated production areas, together with the active participation of cooperatives and businesses in product marketing, has enhanced product value while providing farmers with more stable incomes.
However, further coordinated efforts should ensure the sustainable development of the Hải Phòng carrot brand and strengthen its competitiveness in international markets. Key priorities include expanding certified production areas, accelerating the adoption of advanced agricultural technologies, and investing in post-harvest storage and processing systems. At the same time, greater emphasis should be placed on trade promotion, product marketing, and the development of integrated agricultural value chains.
With an increasingly well-organized production system and close collaboration among farmers, cooperatives, and businesses, carrot cultivation is creating promising opportunities for Hải Phòng’s agricultural sector. From the city’s specialized growing areas, Vietnamese carrots for export are providing farmers with stable incomes. They are also reinforcing their position as one of Hải Phòng’s flagship agricultural products and gradually expanding their presence in international markets.
