Seedless lime is one of main fruits from Vietnam to export. Currently, lime trees are grown sucessfully in Suoi Da commune, Duong Minh Chau District. Fresh lime here is bringing prosperity for local farmers.
Mr. Vu, a pioneer in bringing lime trees to trial planting in Tan Dinh 2 hamlet, Suoi Da commune, Duong Minh Chau district with an area of 1 ha. Up to now, these trees have been harvested. The advantages of seedless lime are that they produce fruits all year round. Moreover, after 1 year of planting, they can harvest fruits.
Especially, seedless lime trees generate the highest productivity from the 4th year. Each year, one tree can harvest more than 200kg and one hectare generates nearly 40 MTs. The harvesting time is more than 10 years, also.
According to Mr. Vu, garden prices range from VND 15,000 to VND 20,000 / kg. At the peak of the hot season, the price can be up to VND 40,000 / kg. When harvested, just look at the skin which is plump and has bright green color, which means fresh lime is ready to pick. Lime trees produce large fruits, about 6-7 fruits / kg, thin skin, juicy, sour and fragrant.
Mr. Vu added, the initial investment cost is about 100 million VND / ha including seedlings, fertilizer, and automatic watering system. After deducting all costs, growers get profit more than 100 million / year.
After studying and planting 1 hectare of seedless lime with good results, he realized that this variety is very suitable for the local soil and climate conditions.
In addition, output and selling price of fresh lime are stable, so he decided to link with farmers to grow and supply larger amounts to the market. Up to now, his model of seedless lime cultivation has increased to 5 hectares, with 5 households participating in the production.
Mr. Vu added, in the process of linking production, Mr. Vu would provide high-quality seeds for growers. Then, he assisted growers in planting, fertilizing and other techniques, as well as guiding and installing the automatic watering system. Especially, on the day of harvest, he bought seedless lime at stable prices, then supplied them to exporting companies of fresh lime.
