Vietnam’s durian continued to lead the fruit and vegetable exports. It accounted for more than 14% of the sector’s total export value. In addition, it generated USD 293.13 million in export revenue during the first four months of 2026. Accordingly, this represented an increase of nearly 60% year-on-year.
In May 2026, Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports maintained strong growth momentum. This performance was supported by a combination of favorable market conditions, domestic policies, and seasonal factors.
May marks the beginning of the peak harvest season for many of Vietnam’s key fruits, including durian, lychee, mango, and coconut. The abundant supply from growing regions across the country is likely to further boost export performance throughout the second and third quarters of 2026.
According to estimates, Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports reached USD 614.8 million in May 2026. This went up 15.1% from the previous month, although slightly down 0.3% compared to the same period last year.
Vietnam’s durian
Overall, fruit and vegetable export turnover during the first five months of 2026 reached approximately USD 2.98 billion. This represented an increase of 29.4% compared to the corresponding period in 2025.
Regarding the export product structure during the first four months of 2026, the sector continued to experience a significant shift. It moved away from traditional fresh produce toward higher value-added agricultural products.
According to preliminary statistics based on data from the Vietnam Customs Department, the share of processed fruit and vegetable exports increased from 29.33% in the first four months of 2025 to 35.82% during the same period in 2026. This trend has helped increase value-added exports while reducing dependence on the seasonal nature of fresh fruit production.
Meanwhile, products covered by official export protocols with China continued to record stable export growth. They performed better than many other product categories.
Vietnam’s fresh and frozen durian remained the largest export category in the fruit and vegetable sector, accounting for 14.26% of total export value. Benefiting from the extended off-season harvest through March and the approval of numerous growing-area codes, Vietnam’s durian exports rose 59.7% year-on-year.
This growth was also supported by the export protocol for frozen durian shipments to China, as well as a low comparison base from the previous year. As a result, export revenue reached USD 293.13 million during the first four months of 2026.
Vietnamese frozen durian
China continued to be the dominant market for Vietnam’s durian. Durian export turnover to the country reached USD 257 million, up 142.7% from the same period last year. Notably, exports to South Korea recorded strong growth. This made it one of the top ten destinations for Vietnamese durian.
During the first four months of 2026, the nuts category posted exceptional growth. It became one of the largest contributors to the country’s fruit and vegetable export earnings. Exports of pistachios surged 204.6% year-on-year to USD 224.63 million.
Meanwhile, exports of coconuts and processed coconut products increased 14.9% to USD 198.38 million. This category ranked fourth among Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable export products.
Official exports to major markets have supported the steady growth of Vietnam’s coconut enterprises. At the same time, exports of dragon fruit, jackfruit, and passion fruit continued to expand. This growth was driven by strong and consistent demand from China, the United States, and South Korea.
Pomelos and lemons are also products with significant export potential. In April 2026, Vietnam officially signed export protocols allowing fresh pomelos and lemons to enter the Chinese market. It also successfully shipped its first consignment of fresh pomelos to Australia. These two fruits are currently the focus of efforts to standardize growing areas and strengthen export activities in the coming months.
